I watched this movie yesterday and It is the kind of weird film I like. It has humor, black humor, as we say here in Brasil. But, in fact, It is a movie about a man that can't really live even when he knows his death is very near. In fact, It is a sad movie about a man living in a complete emotionless way. Sad. And, come on, Takeshi´s English isn't so bad and is important for the character. A great movie. And, Mira Sorvino as Death is funny. That begging at Bagda and that dream about a tea house made me laugh till tears. Namarië.

So many good small bits - but unsatisfying on the whole. A shame. Even though I enjoyed TK speaking in English, it wouldn't worry me if he never did another 'western' movie. He is dead right to not want to hurry into Hollywood. I think it will be a long time before there are good roles for most other cultures (Asian, Indian, Eastern European, etc), than anglo american ones. I just look forward to his next choice.... always interesting, it's like waiting for a present...

okay i finally watched this movie. sadly, the storyline was dragging, did some fastforwarding here and there, although i was not surprised....oh well, just watching takeshi alone was enough for me....plus takeshi's speaking english.
poor kenji, towards the end i felt so bad for him....those two witches, i just wanted to scratch their eyes out for being so nasty to him...and the last scene with death just put me to tears.
