Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm surprised that Takeshi has never been nominated for anything! I've read all these articles on his acting abilities and 99% of them praise his strong acting skills, so why no award nominations? Sure his movies have had nominations, but its not the same thing. If I'm wrong, please let me know the outcomes. If I'm right, I want to know why you guys think he has never been nominated.

Far as I know, he hasn't won any awards nor been nominated for his roles in movies. And it is a big mystery to me as well! It's anyone's guess as to why he's never been nominated. There are many actors/actresses like Takeshi-san who are extremely talented and yet, they too have never received a nomination so go figure! And I will repeat what my high school art/drama teacher once told us in class: Very few actors/actresses do not care if they get an award or nomination (and mean it) so long as they feel they are challenging themselves as thespians and we (the audience) are enthralled and continue to look forward to the next performance. THAT to some are the "awards" and "recognition"....that you moved someone emotionally or made them stop and think while watching you do your craft. The award/trophey/nomination is considered whipped cream on top...it is "fluff" and not "substance". I know, I'm not making much sense LOLOL.....

I applaud you kewpie-chan. Very nicely said. I think it's kind of disappointing if he hasn't received a nomination. I thought Takeshi had been nominated thousands of times. He's really good at getting into character and I like that about him as an actor. Well maybe us fans aren't so much informed about his nominations. If it's not that, then I haven't a clue as to what's the reason for no recognition for our lovable TK.

Kewpie-chan is in a philosophical mood so this will be a bit long-winded LOL.... Thanks for the compliment Lily and I agree with you it is a shame Takeshi-san hasn't received at least a nomination if that is indeed the case. It's a head scratcher for sure and worth some discussions over it I wonder if it boils down to "politics" for lack of a better word. By that, can mean internal office, popularity or industry "politics". Who is manipulating the strings behind the scenes? This more often than not goes hand in hand with those who have "power". And this power can translate into having political, financial, popularity or material power. So on the cynical side, one can say these awards/nominations are rigged so the one with the most power/connection wins. On the flip side of this, one can say you are rewarded for recognition on your efforts and doing an excellent job. Question is, which one do you believe? My personal feelings as far as Takeshi-san trying many things and not being pigeon-holed or type cast is this: It may appear he does things on a smaller scale compared to some of his peers but make no mistake this doesn't have a large effect. For no matter how small or risky it may be, it does make a ripple. And just like dropping a small pebble in still water, that small ripple grows bigger and bigger spreading out from the small pebble. Without barriers, that ripple continues to grow! I mean look at how many people know about his works and how it is praised often. I like to think that perhaps this is what he's trying to do. Rather than being some flash in the pan, you go for long term memory stuff. For really, how many of us can name the past five years of those actors and or actresses who have won awards off the top of your head? But I bet you people can name or recognize an actor or actress who beats to his/her own drum and is great at their craft and name practically every movie he/she made in past five years. Something to think about, right?

My co-worker pointed out that I should enjoy watching "Perhaps Love"...apparently, what I wrote about "someone manipulating the strings behind the scenes" is supposed to be a theme in that movie. LOL! I did not know that I look forward to watching it in two weeks

Did you buy Perhaps Love on ebay? I want to see the movie too. Anywho, I think you're right kewpie-chan. It's all in the matter of who's doing all the work behind the scenes in the film industry. Well at least referring to the one Takeshi is in. I know he's not bothered by it because I've read that he doesn't much care too much for that. He does care what type of roles he's portrayed in though.

No I haven't bought "Perhaps Love" yet. Actually, will be seeing it at a film festival and then attending the opening night festivities/party right afterwards. (For more on this, see in a separate thread here on this forum titled "Perhaps Love") So I will reserve my judgement till then to see if I'd like to plunk down my hard earned cash in buying the DVD. LOLOL....

Aren't we all proud of him? You show em Takeshi! Well ok...as long as it doesn't cost him his career. I like the fact that he likes to stay true to what he feels is a role he will take on. He's passionate about that and I love that about him. Still it would've been nice to hear that he's getting nominated. Was he ever mentioned at the recent AZN awards as a nominee?

I can't agree more with Kewpie-Chan and Lily, very well said! I am so proud of Takeshi for not being bothered about awards. What he genuinely cares about is how he portrays the character in the movie, and he loves challenging himself with difficult and less popular roles. He is also very dedicated to his work, eg. when he acts, he doesn't distract himself with singing the same time, as he wants to give his best shot with what he is doing. I guess this just makes us love him more as he is so unique. He doesn't need the recognition from the public by these so called "awards" ( as a lot of it is politics, as Kewpie-Chan rightly pointed out), he is happy with what he is doing and his satisfaction comes from how he brings the character to life, this is what a good actor really is. Also, he doesn't act in a lot of movies and TV series, he is careful in choosing the script, unlike a lot of the other pop stars. Peter Chan (the director of "Perhaps Love") also pointed out that Takeshi asked a lot of questions about the character that he played ("Lin") and interpreted "Lin" in his own way, which even Peter Chan had not thought about, but was pleasantly surprised at how well Takeshi portrayed "Lin". The true beauty of Takeshi is not only in his appearance but the fact that he is not after money, fame or recognition, he yearns for the contrary actually: peace and quiet. His beauty lies in his dedication in whatever he does and he does it REALLY well. He doesn't care about what the world thinks of him, that's why he is so charismatic. That's why even though he doesn't always give interviews and shy away from the limelight, he is still very popular, as true beauty reveals itself and shines through! I'm sure, us, as Takeshi's fans can appreciate that! I just love him more and more!

Very well put yourself too Tania! And you did touch upon a subject where there's a related thread in this forum that you may be interested in checking out. I believe it's under "Takeshi news and interviews" and the topic thread header is "So charming! But the earth didn't move for me". See what you think of it. Takeshi-san is a rare "breed" amongst his peers in this industry. Good for us who appreciates substance over fluff in this day and age.

Yeah, I like what you had to say about that too tania. You know, I think I may like it that way too just as Takeshi sees fit. He just enjoys acting and just does it. He doesn't do it to win or get his photo taken. It's all about heart and the little things he wants out of being an actor. I think Takeshi doesn't care to get the big nominations because he thinks it might get to his head. He wants to be the way he was ever since he started in the business. I don't think he wants the fame and glory to make him change into some one he never wanted to be in the first place. And if that doesn't give him enough reason to just keep going without some fancy cause, then us fans can show that we want him to continue to act and continue to just do what he loves. The things important to him are important to us fans as well.

Right on Lily BTW, did you check out the thread I wrote to Tania about? Think it proves our POV about the choices TK has made and what it sorta says about him as a person. Some of us gets it (unlike the article featured in that thread) and some don't. We'll see how the other two movies he's slated to be in the next year or two pans out. Think was announced he's gonna film with Ziyi again (oh boy) but I'll save my comments on how I feel about her later LOL....

I can't believe some people can be so mean!!! I totally agree with your point of views Kewpie-chan and Lily, (I have post a reply to that thread) and thanks for telling me about that thread! I'm so glad that true fans of Takeshi (like us) appreciate his qualities.
