does anyone here own one of 'em? i'm thinking about getting one, so any suggestions would be helpful. also, i was on ebay and someone is selling an ebook for codes to codefree dvd players....i was thinking that would be way cheaper than buying a whole new dvd player....would that work also??

There is a chance that your dvd player can be unlocked to play dvds from any region. Go to the website below and look up your dvd model number. It will give you instructions and codes on how to unlock your dvd player. Don't buy the ebook from ebay! You can get the codes from videohelp for free ;D

cool, thanks for the tidbit. but afterwards is there a way to know that it worked or you just have to play a dvd to find out? because all mine are region1 so i wouldn't have a dvd to test it.


edit: okay so i found my dvd model and programmed it, but i have no way of knowing if it worked or not...i guess i'll have to take a chance and buy a dvd that's not region1.... *crosses fingers that it'll work*

Hi Kris and Samanosuke:

Kris if you were able to change the code believe me it will work. I have been able to change 3 of my 4 players from the link that Samanosuke gave you. I have played region 2's & 3's (NTSC). I haven't had any PAL format DVD's so that has not been a problem. Just a suggestion for your first non region 1 DVD - "Perhaps Love" is now available - I ordered a region 3 from HKFlix.com (based in Oakland, CA). Good luck and happy viewing.

thanks windysgirl. i put the code in....i'm just skeptical as to whether it changed or not. but thanks for the suggestion. that's the movie i wanted to get as my first non-region1 dvd. i'm too impatient and can't wait for the english version to be released. i'm going to order it and hopefully it will play.

btw, did you get the limited edition with the photo book and posters? .....i'm just wondering if they are worth the extra $10.

Hey Kris - no I didn't get the deluxe version with the book because it is about the movie. I'm just interested in Takeshi and there are probably only a few pictures of him. In fact if he wasn't in this film I wouldn't be as anxious to see it - would probably just eventually rent it whenever Netflix added it to their library. Now if it was only Takeshi - that would be a different story. If you decided to get the book I would like to know if I am mistaken by not buying it myself. Maybe someone who has seen/bought it can respond for us.

It doesn't work with mine either Iam doing something wrong with the unlocking or it it ist just not meant to be = ( ......I have the Toshiba SD 2800 and the have a Code for that but it doesn't work with my Region 3 HOFD Special Edition

aaahhhhhh!!!! mine worked!! thank you so much samanosuke! i just got home and in the mail was the perhaps love and anna magdalena dvds i ordered last week. i held my breath as i put perhaps love into the player....it didn't work....i said a few cuss words, not realizing my son was present. i got the code and tried it again.....when it played i screamed and started dancing around the room...my son must've thought i was crazy....my hubby scolded me for being such a high school girl. anyway, i'm superduper happy and i'm gonna go watch perhaps love now....

Thanks but I'm talking about my DVD player connected to my TV, not my computer. I tried last night with no success *sobs* Am I doing something wrong?!? My DVD player is APEX 600A and after getting to the part where it says "choose preference" that's where I get stuck cuz I don't see the "hidden menu" by following the directions after it. Has anyone had similar problems and if so, what can I do?
