The Chinese film Perhaps Love will bring a moving end to the coming Venice Film Festival, which will kick off August 31st, after Hong Kong director Peter Chan received an invitation from the fetsival’s organizers to show his work as the closing film.

The decision was made by Marco Mueller, the new festival chairman, despite having only seen the first version of Perhaps Love, which has not yet undergone editing. Having watched the crude production for 40 minutes in Beijing, Mueller suggested the work be the closing film at the festival, and that there should be a grand party for the film.

Asked to explain his preference for Perhaps Love, Mueller put it down to the movie’s unique musical score. A piece of love-themed musical cinema, Perhaps Love captivates audiences with both its moving story line and operatic singing by leading actor, Hong Kong pop singer Jacky Cheung.

Director Chan disclosed that the film was now in editing, and he was not sure whether it could be finished before the Venice Film Festival.

Thanks for sharing that wonderful piece of TK news. Maybe if it does well there, it will open in many places in the US. My guess is that it will only open in NY or LA. Neither one is anywhere close to where I am. Okay LA is closer, but still to far.

"Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi and Taiwanese-Japanese heartthrob Takeshi Kaneshiro, last seen together in blockbuster House of Flying Daggers, will star in a new martial arts period drama next year, a newspaper reported [Monday].

Zhang, who is filming director Feng Xiaogang's Ye Yan (literally, The Night Banquet) after finishing Memoirs of a Geisha, will start filming the new movie in April next year, the Apply Daily reported.

The flick will be directed by Li Shaohung, and Hero action choreographer Tony Ching Siu-Tung will be in charge of its martial arts sequences, the paper said.

The story will feature Kaneshiro as a famous ancient Chinese general who dies of love for Zhang, the paper said. "

Does it have to be Ziyi Zhang (again)??... not that i'm not a fan of hers... but I would like to see Takeshi paired with others... please, if they could find someone who is as equally gorgeous and talented as Takeshi -- that would be really good...

And also, does he have to die? I hate it when Takeshi dies in his films.. :-(

Aussiefan I feel the same way you do. I wish they would use a different actress, someone that Takeshi hasn't been paired up with. I hate Takeshi dying in films too.

I was very sad to see Takeshi die in Returner at the end of the movie but was so happy when it turned out that he didn't actually die.

Heya Samanosuke... sorry for this late reply... i think the latest news on that film with TK and ZZ (called Broadsword) ---> it's not confirmed... so let's hope it won't go ahead! I would be thrilled if TK does the Onimusha movie (that would be a sure hit).

I hope he ends up doing both Onimusha (movie) and the speculated one with Ziyi Zhang. I'd like to see him in as many movies as I could. And I don't care who he's paired up with. As long as he's the lead role and I hear that very masculine voice.

I'm with you on that one for sure. Thanks also for the tidbit in regards to TK's new movie with ZZ.

Though I find Beckham and Pitt to be very nice eye candy also; I'm glad TK beat them out....... ;D

I agree with mshman that PL will probably only open on both coasts here in the US. And, I also hope maybe it does so well that independent theaters in major metro locations pick it up!

Aussiefan, I totally agree: why pair off TK and ZZ again? Does he have to die of love for her? Can't he die of love for someone else?

So, if Tk does this movie, which they are saying starts filming in April of next year, then what up about Tekken?

Well, if he had to choose, I'd hope he picks Tekken, for more than one reason.....

yeah i feel the same way. i wish they would cast an actress whose more intriguing. She doesn't have to be american, just different.
