news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050927/ap_en_mo/film_hong_kong_oscar_entryHONG KONG - Director Peter Chan's musical movie "Perhaps Love" has edged out Jackie Chan's "The Myth" and Stanley Kwan's "Everlasting Love" to become Hong Kong's official entry for the Oscar best foreign film award. The movie was chosen in a vote by the 11 directors of the Federation of Motion Film Producers of Hong Kong. The federation's chairman, Crucindo Hung, said Tuesday that "Perhaps Love," a romance set against the making of a musical, has both artistic and commercial value. It is "the most unique film in Hong Kong film history," Hung said. "Perhaps Love" features an international cast and crew including Hong Kong pop star Jacky Cheung, South Korean actor Ji Jin-hee, Taiwanese-Japanese actor Takeshi Kaneshiro and Chinese actress Zhou Xun. It was shot by Oscar-winning cinematographer Peter Pau and choreographed by Bollywood's Farah Khan. Chan's previous work includes "Comrades: Almost a Love Story," "Three" and "The Love Letter," which featured Tom Selleck and Ellen DeGeneres. A music video from "Perhaps Love" played Tuesday's announcement ceremony showed a Broadway-style production, but in Chinese. Hung said the three shortlisted movies were equally good and it was a tough choice. He didn't release the final vote tally. Chan said the honor was a "first step." "The most important thing is whether we can make it to the final five" that are nominated for the Oscar, he said.

Great! It makes more plausible PERHAPS LOVE being shown here, in the South part of the world. Thanks, webmaster for good news.

Yeah, this is good news. TK's movies just seem to be getting better and better. I have heard this movie being compared to Moulin Rouge. I absolutely loved Moulin Rouge and happen to own it as well as the two soundtracks that go with it. I, therefore, am waiting on pins and needles for Perhaps Love.

I will really want to see this in the theater. I'm so glad it edged out a Jackie Chan movie because Jackie is a huge name in the business right now. I think it's a sign that Eastern theatrics are making a good mark on the industry and that is attributed to sales......so that means that peeps are enjoying what the East has to offer...... Well, how could they not? I wish this movie the best of luck and am anxious to see it. I can only hope the Mpls/St. Paul market is big enough to host it while it's on the big screen.....
Maybe at the Uptown theater........
