Sreyda, yes you hit it on the nose. That's exactly what I was thinking
Now Jean, I'm not denying that the script's good (Takeshi-san's instinct on choosing interesting scripts are so far so good) and therefore he's acting in it. But I was thinking maybe it's a one-two-three combo punch where he's a bit more "publicly accessible". The first being taking a gamble in starring in "Perhaps Love". Let's admit it folks, doing a movie is hard enough but to also sing and sing good? Now that takes talent! The second, there are a lot of great scripts, great directors and he's a great actor. 1 + 1 = success. But this formula won't happen if you don't put yourself out there. (hence my agreement with Jean's comment.) And third (and this is kewpie-chan's speculation, nothing more as she gets a head start to run away from angry TK mob) maybe....just maybe there's some serious "crushing" going on in his life now.

The scripts are good only to his standards, not ours.
I didnt think Perhaps Love was that good either. Takeshi likes to take on different scripts, like in PL b/c is a musical, he had never made one of these before so thats what attracted him to make this in the beginning. Like in the drama Golden Bowl, he likes bowling so he took on the drama so then he gets to bowl b/c he doesnt get the chance to in life. Thats the way he is, like a kid, when he get attracted to something, he get really intrigued and wants to find out more.
I think in this latest movie, he really wanted to work with Tony Leung and Andrew Lau....and....maybe....Shu Qi. LOL

Yes, I agree with you he chooses things that tickles his fancy. Heck I would too if I were an actress! LOL. I don't think I could be shooting/working at least 14 hours a day, sometimes in adverse weather conditions, away from family and friends for long stretches at a time, hounded 24/7 by paparazzi unless I really like the script.

Sandra Ng is the wife of director Peter Chan, the one who made Perhaps Love.
He has known her for a long time but not a close friend.
And "no" thats not him singing at the end of that clip.

Its different for everyone, some women would do anything for their men. Asian women especially, many are very traditional, and obedient, so a lot of celebs wifes laid low or kept it as secrets. Its more like an understanding and sacrifiction but having said that its more like you are second best. Better way to put it just making a living. $$$

For me, I would feel the same as you, like I am second best.
I wouldnt marry this celeb in the first place, he doesnt love me enough to admit my existence.

Then its the choice of marrying this gorgeous, rich celeb with good personality and being a secret wife or letting him go. Very difficult decision, you wouldnt really know what to do until it had really happened to you.

sreyda & jean: yeah, it would bother me now and then too. But then look at the line of work your hubby is in. However, ultimately, I do think it's up to you, the person to stand up to your agent, agency, media, whoever and say, "Hey, this is my wife/husband and she/he is an important part of my life so you'll see/hear about her/him from time to time."

It did however get me to think and would be interested in how y'all think about this but. Here in the States, is it just me or has anyone else noticed that if a celeb has a averge jane or joe spouse, the press/papparazzi doesn't seem to bother taking pics than say your celeb couple? At least not as many pics or interviews? I'm not sure if it's the same in Asian countries. Which leads me to the next question....
IF Takeshi-san were to marry an average everyday jane (meaning no celeb, wealthy family, royalty) I'm sure initially press would be all over it (Takeshi-san married!) but after the dust settles, would the press/papparazzi BE as fanatical in houding him?

and I'll be my own devil's advocate here to say on the flip side, there probably is good reason for the non-celeb spouse to be "in the back seat" as it were. There are some pretty crazy people out there so the last thing you'd want to worrry (at least in my POV) is some nutty stalker stalking your spouse while you're away on assignment. I can't imagine having something bad happen to the one you love and not being there to protect her/him.
