hummmm, loos interesting Christoper Gand directed in Silent Hill movies before- which is a videogame-to-movie adaptation of Silent Hill series from Konami, it's also my favourite game too.
If Takeshi-san is really going to play in this film. He has to put a lot of effort for his english skill.

Onimusha is to be brought to the silver screen in the next couple of years, according to Silent Hill director Christopher Gans. Speaking to French movie website DVDrama.com, Gans, confirmed that he is working on a film adaptation of Capcom’s feudal samurai slash ‘em up. According to the report, Takeshi Kaneshiro (who’s voice was actually used in the Onimusha games) will play the lead role. The script is being written by John Collee (Master & Commander, Happy Feet). Filming is due to start early next year and the whole thing isn’t expected to hit cinemas unitl September 2009. source : www.gamedevotion.net/blog/?p=764

I don't want to sound catty here ...but I see alot of inferrence that TK's English needs work. As an English speaking person (heehee) I think His English is perfectly fine! He has an adorable accent, and truthfully, he speaks it correctly without all the "slangy" overtones. I love to hear him speak it!

Takeshi is actually Onimusha's co-creator, as well.
In the two he's in (even though Sammy IS IN number 4, Dawn of Dreams, he is not in it), he speaks only Japanese. Tig Fong (Canadian) is Sammy's voice in the first one; Robin Atkins Downes (English) is Sammy's voice in the third one.
They could have the movie with English sub titles. I love his English but I dunno if he'd be comfortable with speaking it as a main character.

The now defunct OPM (Official PlayStation Monthly) magazine confirmed that Mr. Gans was at the helm of the Onimusha live-action movie.. I think.. two years ago? The making of is legit but, at the time, there was no cast, and so since Mr. Gans is dang freakin' SMART for wanting Takeshi as Sammy, I see hope for this movie. At least he knows what he's doing. The story can be anything. As long as Takeshi is his character, it's all good on my end. Silent Hill wasn't a blockbuster movie but it was decent enough. As for his English. I find his English speaking skills CUTE and really REALLY good for someone who's Mother tongue isn't English but would he be comfortable with speaking it as a main character? He does tend to have to think of how to say things in English before he speaks. More power to him if he DOES do the whole movie in English. However, if he's not comfortable, I think it should be in Japanese with English sub titles (like you can do with the first Onimusha. I play it in Japanese mostly).

I totally agree that TK is most comfortable with his Japanese. I would'nt care if it was subbed in english, but truthfully, it seems that so much is lost when it gets translated .*** tk_angel, you are KILLIN' me with your ani-pics! Drool shot right onto my work station comp screen!C=)

I think I need to send some folks some bibs. There seems to be alot of drooling going on.
As for TK's English, you will find no complaints from me. I work with the public everyday and his speaking talents are wonderful. Plus the accent is icing on the cake. If you ask me, many of us have a boring dialect. I love to listen to folks from other countries.
But either way, Japanese or English, I will take any. I am not going to be choosy. This will be an awesome film.

why can't it be both in Japanese and English? I think it'd be cool that way. Movies like "The Last Samurai" was done this way and it worked great. Plus, I think Takeshi speaks English well. If Ken Tanaka in "The Last Samurai" can do some of his lines in English, you can bet Takeshi can too.

Actually I hope he doesn't take up the offer. Sure, it would be fun, but I am almost sure that if he takes on the role, he'll be automatically stereotyped in Hollywood. A typical action adventure with an Asian male lead? I really don't recommend it...

i agree that english or japanese would be cute. but i would love english in a way because he's never acted in it before (right?) so for the novelty ^_^
i couldn't really say about the wiseness of an action character, but i don't think he'll necessarily get stereotyped: it depends what offers he takes up. if he gets nothing good then that shouldn't bother him as he's always said he's happy in asian film.

Yes I agree he is the best choice for the movie, but this movie is not necessarily the best choice for HIM. And as far as I'm concerned, I care more about him than the movie itself. If he ever decides to go to Hollywood as a critically acclaimed actor, being an 'action star' is NOT the way to go, ESPECIALLY if you're Asian. It's really hard to get out of that mold. He'll be known as the next "hot pin-up boy that fights" or something stupid like that.
