Well, he's already known as a "hot pin-up boy" here.(GQ, Prada, etc) He was introduced to most Americans as the "action-hero guy" from HoFD. Anyone who knows anything about gaming knows him as the Onimusha guy. I can't see why it would stereotype him. 15 years ago... maybe. He has an enormous body of work that would follow him here, and any director who would want to offer him something would have to fit TK's criteria. He doesn't necessarily need the work here, so he could take it or leave it. I myself, would LOVE to see him do something here, but like he said himself...unless something interesting (for an Asian actor?) came his way, why do whats already been done?

thank you for the news! i hope he'll do it, Samanosuke is like his baby so it would be funny He'll be known as the next "hot pin-up boy that fights" or something stupid like that. yup but he wouldn't have to continue in Hollywood if the industry sees him only like a samurai, he's big enough in Asia not to need their attention

Well most recent news are:
Japanese-Taiwanese actor Takeshi Kaneshiro will be seen in his first Japanese film since the patchy sci-fi gReturnerh in 2002, but unfortunately it wonft be that mooted Onimusha movie. Instead hefll be starring in an adaptation of Isaka Kotarofs novel gShinigami no Seidoh (Accuracy of Death), about a music-loving death god named Chiba who spends seven days with humans to determine whether theyfre worthy candidates for the chop. He always wears white gloves, spends his spare time listening to music in CD shops, and has never seen a blue sky because it rains wherever he goesc which makes it sound a lot closer to gCity of Angelsh than gDeath Noteh.
Other cast members announced so far are Yakusho Kojifs girlfriend in eRetributionf, Manami Konishi (owner of the most unsettling spider-like eyes in Japanese showbiz), Ishida Takuya, Mitsuishi Ken and Terajima Shinobufs mum, Fuji Sumiko. Directing is Kakehi Masaya, an up-and-comer whose gCanned Beautiesh (Bijokan) was one of Jasper Sharpfs faves of 2003. That filmfs also worth noting for a rare cameo by gFirefly Dreamsh and gStarfish Hotelh director John Williams. @@ Nippon Television is producing, and Warner Brothers will distribute the flick nationwide in spring 2008.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see what he decides.

It sounds interesting enough, but I don't know if Takeshi would do it. I kind of think he might be working on another project. And as much as I think he would look pretty awesome as the video game character, I think he might turn it down, big might though.

I doubt he'll turn it down. Mr. Gans wants him. Plus, it's a known fact that Takeshi is a video game nerd.
And, like I said, Onimusha has been co-created by him and he is Samanosuke. The members who have been here for a while and they know but to the new ones: now you know how I fell in love with him.

Mr. Gan can want Takeshi-san for all the riches in the world. However unless the script kicks ass BIG time and it doesn't go on the cheesy side (think the fiasco of the remake of the movie "Storm Riders") I don't see Takeshi-san taking on the role when he and his agents have this high standard script screening process.
I don't know. On one hand it would be cool for it to be on screen (for me, more for the historical context on the characters of the video game.) But knowing the track record (so far and counting) of how Hollywood has f***ed up (pardon my strong euphomism) video games-to-movies, I say thumbs down.

Silent Hill wasn't that bad, granted that it wasn't a MOTHER looking for her daughter.
And don't get me started on the Resident Evil movies.
Metal Gear Solid will be made into a movie; however, David Hayter, Big Boss and Solid Snake himself, will have nothing to do with the project, considering he's the only MGS voice actor who has played the series.
Blood Rayne? Took place before she was even born.
Mortal Kombat? PAUL ANDERSON!! WILL YOU STOP MAKING MOVIES?? You so got Subby WRONG!! Not only that, YOU KNOW JACK CRAP ABOUT RE!!
Thing is, Onimusha is HIS, so I highly doubt he'll say no. I'll eat my words if he's not Sammy.

Well I'm not too sure if he'll take it up or not...I guess we'll just have to wait for confirmations. But he did say that he's very picky with his roles and only takes on challenging and different roles. Onimusha isn't too different (fairly cliche), despite being a good opportunity for him somewhat. I'll support him whatever he decides but I'd prefer him to simply stick to challenging roles with more depth.

Apparently, he WILL be playing Samanosuke in the live action movie.
Speaking of, I saw Onimusha 3: Demon Siege at EB Games for $10 (CDN), pre-played.

I am not a really BIG gamer, but I say that they (H'wood) struggle to make a good movie from any of the games out so far. I almost liked Doom, almost. **Please don't let anyone muck up Onimusha..!!!**.(fingers crossed)

If he is Sammy, Mr. Gans may do as he wishes. He can have the movie be like Onimusha 3 (travels through time!! ;D ) or have it surround the first one. It's SOMEWHAT historically accurate but not entirely. Akechi Samanosuke and Oda Nobunaga DID exist during that time in Feudal Japan (as we all know) but no one was possessed by demons. THIS PART WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS FROM THE FIRST ONE!! *blink blink* After his fight with Fortinbras (he's SHOCKED to see Nobunaga still alive!! He sits up and his hair is flowing and Takeshi makes Sammy go "Huh?!, all sexy like), Samanosuke goes "missing" for a LONG time. How long? Oh, give or take 14 years. Kaede spent time looking for him but then she was recruited to go into war and thus died whilst at war; so there's that time frame between Warlords and Demon Siege. Or, it could be a back story. I dunno. Thing is, if Mr. Gans adds Jubei, I'll be going O.o because, when Jubei came in, Sammy was "missing", but I'll still go see it because Takeshi-sensei is Sammy! Well.. hopefully. www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFSNFDlaxMk Someone find me that DVD so I can buy it, plz!
