Synopsis: A director who intends to make a romance film begins to wonder about the role fate plays in relationships. She ends up re-examining her own first love in a completely different light.
Modern-day director Cheryl (played by the film’s actual director, Sylvia Chang Ai Chia) sets out to tell a tale of teen love that fizzled and was then reignited in adulthood. Takeshi Kaneshiro and Gigi Leung Wing-Kei are the on-and-off-again lovers. Their relationship begins in high school in the 1970’s and continues in separate episodes into the 1980’s and ‘90’s. Karen Mok Man-Wai forms the third part of a strangely intersecting love triangle.
This romantic drama reveals a tangled web of meaning in the relationship between the three friends and is likely to leave a deep impression upon the viewer.Taken from echinesemovie.com Synopsis + ***SPOILER ALERT***Cheryl (Sylvia Chang), a Hong Kong film director, uses the story of her first true love as the plot for her next movie about first love. As she tells the tale to a screenwriter, Cheryl relives old memories of her past. The tale is told in flashback with the romance between two shy youngsters, Ho Jun (Takeshi Kaneshiro) and Sheo Rou (Gigi Leung). Ho Jun was a shy youngster, who was more interested in his guitar rather than school. A chance encounter between Ho-Jun and Sheo-Rou led to their first sweet taste of romance. Caught between them is Sheo Rou's best friend, Chen Li (Karen Mok). An innocent adventure turns sour, when Sheo-Rou's mother discovers that the young couple has spent the night together at a hotel. Though nohing untoward actually occurred, pressure was placed upon both Ho Jun and Sheo Rou, and they eventually separated. Sheo Rou turned to Chen Li for support, only to find that her friend's feelings for her ran deeper than she ever realized. Years later, Ho Jun and Sheo Rou were reunited, temporarily in Japan. Ho-Jun worked as a travel guide and Sheo Rou as a buyer for a fashion firm. They enjoy brief moments of romance, which ended when Sheo Rou discovered that Ho Jun was married. She then returned to Hong Kong, and became engaged herself. Ho Jun returns to Hong Kong to make the last attempt to win Sheo Rou's heart, telling her that he had already divorced, but it was too late. As Ho Jun left Tokyo, the two promised to remain friends. It was years later, that Cheryl or also known as Sheo Rou found out that Ho Jun's wife was actually Chen Li. She discovered this only after Chen Li had died. Chen Li left a message for Cheryl, asking her for forgiveness. As Cheryl prepared to fly back to Hong Kong from Japan, Cheryl received a present from Ho Jun. Inside the box, are photographs, each taken while Ho-Jun was thinking about Sheo Rou, of their brief and bright moments of happiness.

This is no innocent "first love" movie, mate. It has more love scenes than all other movies that TK has done (even pushing "Sleeping Town" limits... almost)
Has anyone notice that TK and Karen Mok (or Morris) did 3 movies together? Just like with Kelly Chan and Gigi Leung.. well there're 2 with Gigi actually. But yeah, TK is always with the same girls for some reason.
With Karen Mok: "Fallen Angel", "Tempting Heart", "First Love Litter on the Breeze"

This is my first TK movie. It's also the first time I got to know him. It was shown on our local tv and he immediately impressed me. Well, this movie certainly broke my heart. Maybe because of his acting ability. I managed to purchase the VCD later. He's a really good actor. I could feel his pain and loneliness by his facial expression alone. Each time I watched, I ached for him. I've read somewhere that some people don't like this movie. Maybe because it's so heartbreaking. It leaves you feeling so empty. How unfair the turn of events are. Sometimes I wish I could change the story. What he or she should do instead. I wish to see happiness on his face. The scene at the end when she went through the photos really touched me. The two simple sentences, 'It's freezing' and 'Taken at times when I missed you dearly' really did it for me. A simple explanation of how he felt for her, throughout the years. As she fought her tears, so did I. For those of you who haven't seen the movie, please do so and let me know whether you'll share my pain, or is it just me. I just can't forget his face. Could this be a picture of his real life? Lonely, sad and pinning for someone? Dearest Takeshi, wherever you are, whatever you do, please be happy. We all love you. We all want you to be happy.

The last scene where Gigi looks at the photos is my favorite and never fails to make me cry. Of course, I always imagine Takeshi's character as having written those words and feeling all that loneliness and pain. TK himself was asked which was his favorite scene, and believe it or not, he chose this one also.
"Tempting Heart" gets better and better each time I watch it. I think it is one of Takeshi's most heartbreaking films, and he does a fabulous job of conveying all that pain of a lost love. It is rather beautiful but depressing!

It is rather beautiful but depressing! Ooh.., I know I shouldn't be the only one who feels this way about the movie. But I notice most people like to talk about other movies. I still vote this one as my favourite. God, he was so good.

The TK dvd's I ordered came yesterday and I watched all 3 of them already! Tempting Heart was one of them. I really liked this movie alot. I was reminded of "The Way We Were" - we know they really loved each other, but sometimes things don't work out the way we would like. They stayed in touch with each other and stayed friends and even consumated their love. I was definitely rooting for her to drink the water and accept his proposal - he sure was looking so handsome in that cashmere sweater! But you know, as people age their priorities in life change and it's understandable that she loved him, but wasn't "in love" with him then.
And true to all of the characters that TK portrays (even the kooky, grundgy ones) - he was so romantic, galant and sentimental with the women he has feelings for - which I am a sucker for.
Two thumbs up for this one!

I liked this movie, but felt disappointed at the end- to go allllll the way thru this movie and then not end up together- it was just too much for me. It seemed that the timing was never right( for them to get together) thru out the movie, but as the end drew near, I was hoping that they would get together. It left me feeling sad.....especially with the last scene of her looking at the pictures TK took when he was forelorn and missing her- it broke my heart. Oh well, maybe these are the emotions you are suppose to feel for this movie. I guess not all flicks can end happy.... still all and alll a good movie.

I feel you Tatiana! I was soooo pulling for them to end up together. But I think it's very true to life. I mean, how many of us ever end up with our first true love?
