I just saw this Japanese movie, Nobody Knows, today and it is EXCELLENT!!
It's about 4 little kids whose Mom abandons them and they have to resort to taking care of themselves. The oldest is a 12 year old boy, he's cute - they're all so cute, who becomes the surrogate father to his siblings. This 12 year old boy actor also won best Actor at Cannes for this role in 2004.
It's a sad movie but definitely worth every tear. Go see it if you can!

A friend recently saw this film and highly recommends it. Said it was heartbreaking and devastating to watch but worth the emotional rollercoaster you go through.

Look, I saw NOBODY KNOWS in what we call "art session" here, in Brasil. As you all know my country is a very beautiful place, but tremendous unfair when it comes to money. I live in the Northwest, where are more poverty than in the South, for example. Here, It is normal to see kids on the streets, begging for money or food. Our government is a joke of bad taste. Mr. Lula, our president, were elected as a symbol of hope from my people, but he is corrupted, and the country is, now, assoled by a felling of "giving up". But, we are fighters! What I wanna say is: the reality shown at NOBODY KNOWS is very commun here. But, the civil society is trying to change things. We have a lot of good non-governamental organizations working with this kids. Some as PROJETO AXÉ and CRIANÇA ESPERANÇA are recognized by UN. Who is interested about children in a "risk situation" can check CENTRAL DO BRASIL, by Walter Salles or CITY OF GOD.
