I am not including English as his Mother tongue isn't English and his English isn't perfect but so CUTE!! What I'm saying is, I find that he's more confidant when he speaks Japanese. He lights up. His face is bright. He's happy speaking Japanese. That's me, though. As long as he's speaking, it's all good!!

If you haven't seen the TK movie "Too Tired to Die," you absolutely must. I got it from YesAsia.com. Anyhow, he speaks English and I just about died. I couldn't stop grinning. At one point, he asks, "Can I have sex with your wife?" If only he would ask my fiance that one day. If my fiance knows what is good for him, he would say "Sure! Take all the time you want!"

TK definately seems much more animated and relaxed when he speaks Japanese - i think the language suits his voice somehow too. I LOVE it when he speaks English; it isn't perfect (but then again, his English is so much better than my Japanese..or my Cantonese etc!!) but he sounds so sexy and adorable. TTTD is worth watching just for TK speaking English. Recently, i've been watching tons of his Hong Kong movies so i'd kinda gotten used to hearing him speak Cantonese - so when i watched HOFD again i was bowled over but just.how.damn.sexy he sounds speaking Mandarin. I mean, it turned my knees to jelly! hehe.
To be honest, TK just has a great voice so i don't really mind what language he speaking in, just as long as he is (i HATE it when his voice gets dubbed over in some of his movies by some actor whose voice sounds nothing like Takeshi's and is no where near as sexy! grr!)

I quite agree. When I first watched HOFD, I left it in the original language that was spoken with English subtitles. I then tried to watch it in English. As soon as I heard TK "speak" I immediately turned it off. I will take his original voice in any language instead of someone "speaking" for him. I may not know exactly what he is saying, but from the sound of his voice and his facial expressions, I don't think I miss much.

Grunts, groans, and sighs from TK would even sound like music to my ears...

His voice is what drew me to him. So, I agree. I don't care what language he's speaking as long as he speaks. I just melt when I hear that voice.

I love it when he speaks Japanese but I admit I had goosebumps when I heard him say "xie xie ni" in Turn Left, Turn Right. I find him sexy speaking Mandarin lol! But I guess it will thrill me more if I hear him say "I Love You" instead of Wo Ai Ni ;D

He's does seem comfortable speaking in Japanese, but he seems just as comfortable speaking Taiwanese. Most of the time he's forced to speak cantonese or Mandarin in movies or interviews, that's why he seems a lil hestitant. With him being a native to Taiwan and raised their most of his life, plus being 3/4 chinese, I was surprised that most people would categorize him unconsciously as a Japanese. He does tend to tell people that he considers himself Japanese because of his name and his father. But no matter how you look at it, he's still inarguably primarily Chinese, and he shouldn't be ashamed of that.

I think I read that he was teased because of his mixed heritage growing up in Taiwan. He may have chosen to be "Japanese" as a sort of reaction to that. Whether he just wanted to be contrary or whether he wasn't to impressed with the way the "Chinese" kids treated him, who knows?

Good point. I'm watching Sleepless Town right now, and his character in the movie is like a parallel allegory of him in real life. He's being ridiculed as a taiwanese-japanese mutt, and he's feeling out of place in his own circle. Awws. I did notice that even though he looks the hardcore part, he's still coming off too sweet and unthunggish. It's sorta cute. And they also switch between languages like crazy, I was trying to keep up with the Mandarin, but then people are speaking taiwanese, Japanese, and cantonese, and I just gave up and started reading the english subtitles.
