I'm new to the forum, so please....be gentle! If this topic has been discussed before, I apologize in advance.
Have any of you ever picked up on small (or large) details in Takeshi interviews or behind-the-scenes footage that provided some insight into Takeshi's character/make up/view on life/etc.? Here are a few examples that struck me:
1. He's refreshingly straightforward
In "Takeshi Kaneshiro's Antarctic Adventure," when he joked (God I hope so) that he was going to quit acting soon, the killjoy of a doctor with whom he was speaking said it was probably because Takeshi had enough money. Takeshi quickly responded, "No. I don't have enough money. What is enough money?" Can you imagine an Hollywood movie star saying they don't have enough money? The line we USUALLY hear from most actors is that money isn't really that important to them. Right! I don't know about you, but when I go to my job everyday, it's not to do volunteer work. Everyone wants to be well compensated for the job they do. Not sure why we sometimes think those in the entertainment industry are any different. Personally, I thought it was great to hear Takeshi's response, because it wasn't fake.
2. He doesn't feel too important to do things for himself.
In the same program, when he was leaving the rest of the group to go catch a flight, he picked up one of his own bags-- even though others were helping him. Again, most (I'm sure not all) Hollywood actors probably would have just let the others take care of them all. It may seem like a small thing, but I've gone on business trips with co-workers who insisted upon being catered to at all times. And movie stars we ain't!
3. He takes his craft very seriously.
In the extras on "The Returner" DVD, when he's listening to the movie's director, you can just tell he's taking it all in. He just looks so focued. He knows he has a job to do and he's there to do it.
Does anyone have anything else?
