kimurafan from the "creme de asie" message board has started a little poll pitting takeshi and kimura against each other. i'm not a member yet and guests aren't allowed to vote, so you can bet i'm about to high-tail my hot little buns back over there and GET REGISTERED TO VOTE! (well, i've been wanting to get registered over there anyway there so this is a good motivator) if you are registered over there, go vote! here's the link: s2.invisionfree.com/la_creme_d_asie...?showtopic=1606 if you aren't registered, you should do so. it's really a good board that treats our takeshi real good. oh yeah, and there's some good stuff on "the other TK" as well. plus, some really good info on various other aspects of asian cinema and celebs. probably most of ya'll know this already but there are new members coming on this board every day it seems, so i'm just tryin' to spread the love, 'kay? i think ya'll know who i'm going to vote for... but.... ...i want to say a word about "the other TK"... ...i know i was cruel in another thread when i said he looks all gay and pretty like a girl, and that i have no use for him. yeah, i said it. but now...i've been reading up on the guy because i HAD to know "what all the fuss is about". i can't stand being out of the loop. this is how i am, i will research and gather evidence and then i myself will decide what i think of the subject. i won't bow to popular opinion. just because kimura is said to be "japan's sexiest male celebrity" and all hot-to-trot doesn't mean i'm going for it. i have to find out for myself. (and i know, this is not a kimura board, you don't need to remind me...just be patient, i'll be done in a minute) it's worth pointing out that kimura is probably only considered "japan's sexiest male celeb" because the japanese consider takeshi to be a foreigner. this is true, yes? perhaps it's a plot by kimura to eliminate the competition! well, whatever the case, i do find it wildly hilarious (and at least a TAD ironic) that "the boy they don't think is japanese enough to be...japanese!" has the same initials as their beloved kimura. take THAT, kimutaku! (note: kimutaku HATES to be called kimutaku! shhhhhhhh...i learned this during my research. ) so finally, my reseach is concluded on "the other TK". i have seen some photos, i've read some interview stuff, watched a couple of his commercials on real player, even heard him singing on real player! i have given him a fair shake!! and what decision have i reached (stop reading now if you really don't give damn at this point). i've decided... ...i've decided women all over japan know EXACTLY what they're talking about! ya'll, he really IS a hot tamale. he's just cute as a button but real sexy, too. and very, very funny. also, a little lusty (okay, more than a little lusty). i can see why he's so popular. i like his humor most of all, even when he's being racy. he doesn't strike me at all as foul, but he is racy. it's very funny. i read something he said that was really hilarious, he was commenting on...oh, how can i say this? um...well, let's just get it out: he was commenting on the difference in sizes between "foreigners" (i'm pretty sure he was referring to westerners, i can't be sure though, but definitely non-asians) private parts and his own. well, all he said really was "i can't compete with that". he was very frank! okay, but that's not the funny part. that was when he said "but sometimes you can get better results with a few rounds from a machine gun than with a big blast from a bazooka." you go, kimura! fine, i've given up hating on kimura (but i won't stop teasing on him!). but let's get one thing clear: takeshi is STILL my "heavenly little king". oh yes, he is! he's my favorite, always will be. so let's go vote! wow, i wrote so much. i'm just in a good mood tonight, having got all my tax crap done. what a release!

...i know i was cruel in another thread when i said he looks all gay and pretty like a girl, and that i have no use for him.... Personally, as a gay man, I like it if TK happens to look "all gay and pretty like a girl". I also happen to know plenty of very cool straight/bi women who would agree with me about this.

also, i don't understand your statement, swellboy--maybe you can enlighten me: you said that as a GAY man you would LIKE it if tk "looks pretty like a girl"? did i read that right? why would a gay man be attracted to someone who looks like a girl? i thought the whole idea about being gay is that you like the SAME gender. please explain to me the attraction to someone who looks like the very gender you are supposed to *not* be attracted to. I'll do my best to explain here, though I certainly can't speak for all gay men anymore than a single black man can speak for all black men. That said, I find that what is conventionally considered "feminine" in appearance and in personality characteristics in a man is often very attractive. Why? Well, why do people like tomatoes and others don't? It's a matter of personal taste and there's no rational basis behind it, nor does there need to be, imo. For me, when a man naturally has some or many "feminine" characteristics, he often (not always; it depends on the particular guy, of course) takes on a quality that is not simply "feminine" any longer, since he's not an actual woman, but that of a soft, graceful *man*. I can't explain beyond that, since I feel that what you're asking me to do, Veronica, is to explain something that really goes beyond the rational, namely, the whole concept of attractiveness. Now, there are many gay men who are very conventional around what they find attractive, that being to men who are considered by mainstream norms as being very "masculine". A lot of these men are what my friends and I consider "assimilationists", the whole constructed identity that "I'm just like straight people, except that I like to sleep with someone of my own gender; I'm *normal* [whatever the heck 'normal' truly is, other than well-adjusted in this hectic world we all live in and share], and please don't think otherwise of me." Well, many of us in the numerous gay subcultures and communities (yes, there is more than one gay community, as many of you reading this are well aware, I'm sure) that exist are more complex than that, don't really care about what others think, and feel that we have a whole other set of perspectives to contribute to the culture as a whole, like the numerous subcultures of people with African descent here in the States do. It takes all kinds to make a world and the more diversity, I believe, the more everyone benefits. There are gay men who really don't care for women at all or what is associated with them, such as characteristics that have long been socially assigned to being "normal" for the female gender. I have no time for these kind of men, who are, frankly, misogynists. I'm certainly not one of those. If I am making little to no sense to you, Veronica, it's because what I am getting at has been written about in whole books and is far beyond the scope of a post on a forum. (Here's a title of a book of essays that I recommend: RADICALLY GAY. Can't remember the editor's name off-hand, but most of the essays are by the renowned Harry Hay, a very important historical figure in the U.S. gay lib. movement. There are many, many books out there to read to get oneself more educated on gay identities and subcultures, not to mention, of course, books on black identities/subcultures, etc., etc.) In closing, I don't feel like I'm "*supposed*" to be attracted to any particular kind of men anymore than anyone-- gay, bi, or straight-- is "supposed" to be attracted to whomever/whatever. (Of course, there are certain attractions that are understandably taboo, such as pedophilia. Pedophiles definitely have major, major problems in my book, and I'm sure everyone here would readily agree with me on that.) Now, I think I'll take a break here so I don't ruffle more feathers and risk getting moderated or outright banned on this forum for speaking my truths here. I do hope, though, that maybe I've helped to educate some people here a bit-- or at least have left some food for thought. This has not been my intention on this forum, btw, but, as a lone gay guy (or one of a very few) in assorted situations, I've sometimes found myself in the default role as "educator" about gay subcultures/communities and gay identity stuff; it gets tiresome sometimes. Nonetheless, I come here to this forum to enjoy, along with the rest of you here, expressing my positive thoughts I have for TK, whom every single individual here has her/his unique perceptions about, including whether he's considered "feminine", "masculine", or some combination thereof. Okay, now I'm actually done. Whew!

yeah, i also don't want to get off teh subject of TK and on to something that totally doesn't relate. but i see what you're trying to explain. i'm not really interested learning about gay subcultures and what have you, it's just that comment struck me (the comment i already mentioned) as almost a contradiction in terms. but it's true what you say, that it's something that cannot be explained in a post on a forum. it's a whole "thing" that has to be explored by those have the interest. i don't, but thanks for taking the effort to express yourself! so i'll leave the topic at that!

I applaud you for stating your piece, Swellboy ... it takes courage to voice an unknown, minority opinion ... don't feel so all alone. This TK fan empathizes & understands - sometimes you just like what you like, no explanations required. Oh, there's another TK poll, this time it's TK vs Won Bin (Korean movie idol) at this link: s2.invisionfree.com/la_creme_d_asie/index.php?showtopic=1600Check it out & vote (for TK, of course) everyone!

This TK fan empathizes & understands - sometimes you just like what you like, no explanations required. Thank you, OleWiseOne, for your very kind, thoughtful, supportive words. Yes, I like what I like and I'm sure that's ultimately the case for you and everyone else. We each simply like what we like... And one of the people whom I happen to like (okay, haven't met him in person, but I like how he comes across) is dear TK! Now, I'll have to see if that survey is still going, so, if it is, I can vote for TK!

Well, I clicked on the above link and went through the whole process of registering. That was last night. Today, it's still the case that I'm allowed to log on, but a red-lettered sign comes up saying something about me not having access and telling me again to log on. I don't know what to make of it... Oh, and if I do happen to finally be granted access, does anyone know exactly the name/title of the forum/thread on that site where I'd need to go to and vote for TK? Thanks to anyone who can help me out here. Swellboy Frustrated Voter for TK

Swellboy, For first time login, after you get the email from soonpi click the link in the email it'll take you right in. The instruction is also in the email.... Thank you for all the directions, Alisa. Perhaps the problem is that I never received an email from soonpi, verifying my being registered, etc. So, I just clicked back onto the site, logged in (and was not allowed access-- *still*) and sent an email to the admin., telling them of my problem. Hopefully, this will clear things up so I can vote for dear TK...*Sigh*
