Hello, Newoldtakeshi! Welcome to this wonderful forum. The webmaster is working on a super version of the website--so, don't fail to log in on May 15th--Sunday! As to Takeshi's necklace--yes, it's an image of Buddha--head and shoulders only--with a string necklace. He wears it constantly--only removing it, I think when necessary-- during filming.

there are several "types" of buddhism, much in the same way there are several "types" of christianity. takeshi practices tibetan buddhism specifically and his spiritual leader is the dalai lama now in exile in india.
you can see two very good movies on this subject, 'seven years in tibet' and 'kundun'. i liked both very much and the two movies are linked by the same events in the life of the young dalai lama. i learned a lot about the plight of the tibetans, the early life of the dalai lama, as well as a lot about buddhism in general.
the pendent takeshi wears is a bust of "the buddha of compassion" which is the specific buddha whose teachings the tibetan buddhists follow. richard gere is also a tibetan buddhist and i did read once that he and takeshi have the same "master" (teacher).
hope this helps. ya'll take care.

Because my mom is a Buddhist, though a Zen Buddhist, I've learned from her, over the years, about different sects/"types" of Buddhism, including Tibetan Buddhism. There are indeed several sects/types of Buddhism as Veronica said. I have the deepest respect for the Dalai Lama and now feel even more respect for TK, knowing that he is a follower of Tibetan Buddhism, a very compassion-filled, mindful religion. I also enjoyed the two movies SEVEN YEARS IN TIBET and KUNDUN. The latter of the two films focuses more on the Dalai Lama himself and does a wonderful job depicting him and the plight of the Tibetan peoples when they came under Chinese communist rule, around 1949 if I remember correctly. The pageantry combined with the history made for a beautiful movie.

Wow! A fan gave that to him? I would be so thrilled if he kept something I gave him or better yet wear it.
