2046 is supposed to be released in US theatres sometime this year - who knows exactly when. But I've been resisting the temptation of getting the HK/Taiwan/China DVD version because I really want to see it on the big screen first.
Definitely think seeing all those beautiful Asian faces on the big screen is the way to go. I mean get the DVD it if it's not coming to your city, but try to support Asian films by going to the theatre when they come.
BTW, Days of Being Wild is coming to my town soon, I wonder if it's going to be shown in other places too - look out for the title if you see it!

I'm the opposite. I import the dvd (originals not bootleg) and watch that first and then I'll watch it on the big screen if the movie ever opens on American soil. If a US dvd version of the movie is released then I'll buy it again. Thats what I did with HOFD. I've got the Asian and American dvd. As for 2046 I haven't seen it yet but, I have heard that it is good.

Interesting interview w/ Wong Kar-Wai from Phase 9.tv Article: 2046 Q&A with director WONG KAR-WAI Author: Mark Salisbury URL: www.phase9.tv/Broke down & bought the DVD before its official release in North America. Leung's character does a 180 degree turn from "In the Mood for Love" and becomes a total cad and creep. Film beautifully shot but didn't resonate w/ me like "In the Mood for Love". Plus the futuristic scenes went on too long. Overall a good film but needs a tighter edit.

Have you seen this film SamIam? I've been trying to get it from netflix, but is listed as "very long wait". I saw "In the Mood for Love" this weekend and am looking forward to "2046". What's your take on this movie?

2046 was a good movie, very melancholy and visually pleasing like all his stuff, but def not one of his best. Hate to say it, but he's playing the same concepts out way too much.

I watch 2046. It was shown here, in the South part of the world. it's a great movie. In fact, the idea to go to a place where our memories will not change is kind of common. But, here, the man created a place like that, not only in his mind because he was envolved with a lot of women. But it was only sex, his heart was in the past. I love Wong Kar Wai. And 2046 is a great movie.

I agree, 2046 is a great flick. I thought the same about Tony's character, what a player! And yeah, what a change from In the Mood for Love (which I also really enjoyed) But Kimura's character......I felt so bad for him......he never really got his one true love. It would be so painful to go to a place hoping to find your love only to discover she is not there and then on the way back home to have to endure her image on the face of a robotic space stewardess and still not to be able to have her. It's just plain sad.
I love Wong Kar Wai and his twisted sense of reality and how he portrays human beings. His one scene in 2046 where Tony and ZZ are having sex is so realistic.....holy crickeys! It looks like they are really in the act.....very good. Probably the best sex scene I've ever seen! (well...it's up there with the one from Meet Joe Black-which was a really good scene partly, I think, because Joe had never had sex before and it was very sensual)
I'm still waiting for Eros from Netflix with an 'unknown' release date.......
