It has been confirmed that singer/actor Leon Lai is added to the cast of "Perhaps Love". So now we have 3 main guys and 1 girl. Who is Leon Lai? Leon Lai in 1 minute: -born in Beijing, been to school in Britain, lived most of his life in Hong Kong -became very popular in Hong Kong in the 90's, as a singer -one of the "4 kings" in the HK muisc biz in the 90's, along with Jacky Cheung, Andy Lau & Aaron Kwok -also an actor although not a particularly good one -latest film: Infernal Affair III -has a solid fan base in Asia (yes he is pretty famous) -single, dating actress Shu-Qi on and off -known for being "stuck up", "cool", etc...

Is Jacky Cheung still 1 of the 3 main guys? I really like him, seems like such a down-to-earth, nice guy, good singer too! Hope he's still part of the picture.

hmm... wait, I need to correct something. Leon is almost 40... he's like 39 or 40 Yes he was in "Fallen Angel" too. Leon is the "GQ" type of man... doesn't he look like it? TK is gettin' there... or is already there. hehe. Yes, Jacky Cheung is still in "Perhaps Love". I know, he's a really good singer. I'm too young to like him (you know his fans are the older bunch.... hehehe) but I think he can really sing and his songs are great. He has a positive/healthy image but lately some HK gossip magazines are saying that he's a major drug addict He does coke, big time. Well they didn't really say it was him, didn't name any names... but it's really obvious that the person they're talking about is Jacky Cheung. I like the movies Jacky did when he was younger... he did a lot of comedies you know? He was really funny. Like this one he did with Tony Leung 13 years ago ;D called "Days of being dumb". I love this movie even though it's so silly..... both Jacky and Tony were really funny.

No, say it isn't so! Clean-cut, all around nice guy Jacky Cheung a druggie? ... no, no, no! Of all the talentless, smug, pop-singing wannabees out there, why would Miss Coke choose poor little Jacky to inflict pain upon? Life is not fair. Oh, yes, "Days of Being Dumb" was such a great funny movie!! An all-time HK comedy classic! Although when Anita Yuen comes around, she just throws a wrench into the stellar comedy teaming of Jacky Cheung & Tony Leung (the champion HK comedy duo in this TK fan's humble opinion). Hello, Veronica, if you're reading this thread, check out this movie: "Days of Being Dumb" for Tony Leung's comedy chops & an introduction to HK's popstar/2nd banana actor & sweetie, Jacky Cheung . It's also a spoof of director Wong Kar Wai's "Days of Being Wild."

Don't worry, Tanht, those talentless, smug, pop stars wannabes are already faithful believers in Miss Coke Well maybe those gossip magazines are only half true... but I wouldn't be surprised to read about celebs absuing drugs. "Days of being dumb" is "dumba-s-s" funny but I doubt it'd be as funny as we see it to a non-Asian audience... no discrimation here. I mean, the humor in this movie is probably very "Chinese"... it touches upon the gangster, Hong Kong's unique culture and stuff. There's a certain really funny scenes and conversations that Chinese or Asian people would get and think it's hilarious while others might not fully get it. I didn't like Anita Yuen in this movie. It was just fun watching Tony Leung and Jacky Cheung being dumb gangster-wannabes Do you know about "Men suddenly in black" (2003 or 04...) w/ Eric Chung? This is a funny movie... I like its sense of humor. It's totally mocking "Infernal Affair" hehe.

No, Webmaster, I haven't seen Men Suddenly in Black ... I'm kinda stuck in the 90's when Takeshi was still a boy, not yet a man. I'll have to check Men Suddenly in Black out. You know, maybe enlightened non-Asian audiences, such as those who read this lovely website & forum, will get the HK/Southern Chinese humor of Days of Being Dumb. Hello TK fans, anyone (non-Asian) willing to be guinea pigs & watch Days of Being Dumb & tell us what you think of it?

It's also a spoof of director Wong Kar Wai's "Days of Being Wild." yes, i'm reading it. thanks for telling me. i will try to get it. but i think i need to see 'days of being wild' first or else i won't even get the spoof of the comedy one. i'm making my way down the list of tony leung movies, though i don't intend to see them ALL. that would be too time-consuming and if i tried i would probably end up being sick of short tony! best that i don't over-do it.

I'm so proud that you've become so wise so soon! Too much of a good thing is never good. It'd be nice to see "Days of Being Wild" before seeing "Days of Being Dumb," but I'm not so sure it's necessary. (What do you think, Webmaster?) DOBD can stand alone. And Webmaster said the "guinea pigs," ugh, volunteer reviewers, get a free copy of the movie. (She's so nice.) But don't let me rush you - I'm kinda impatient, as Webmaster knows.

"There's a certain really funny scenes and conversations that Chinese or Asian people would get and think it's hilarious while others might not fully get it."
I was wondering about the "inappropriate" use in my eyes, of slapstick in some films. "Turn Left, Turn Right" immediately comes to mind. In a news story about "Perhaps Love" there is mention that even though China, Taiwan and Hong Kong may share the same culture, what appeals to movie audiences in one region does not necessary translate to another.
Anyone care to elaborate on this?
