New movie is making...GREEN DRAGON SABER

Takeshi Kaneshiro will play in new movie with Zhang Zhyi "Green Dragon Saber".

China's most popular actress, Zhang Ziyi, will play the lover of the red-faced general, Guan Yu, in the upcoming project, Green Dragon Saber.

The martial arts epic, to be directed by Li Shaohong, is adapted from real events in the life of the great figure Guan Yu, who lived during the Three Kingdoms period of Chinese history.

Guan Yu (160-219AD), also called Guan Gong in Mandarin, lived at the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220). He served as a general to Liu Bei, who founded the Kingdom of Shu, which was centered on Chengdu in west China's Sichuan province.

Taiwan actor, Takeshi Kaneshivo, will play the lead role of Guan Yu, making this the second time the two international stars will play lovers on the big screen, following their previous turn in the award winning film House of Flying Daggers.

The film is scheduled to commence shooting in the middle of the year 2006.

First of all..aren't there other chinese actresses besides Zhang Ziyi.. I mean she's nice but she is getting way much to attention in relation to her talent. And second why a martial arts movie? I want Indies....edgy movies. I know you are a Superstar but can't you just do it like nicole kidman and play in genius small movies like Dogville. And Iam still waiting that you work together with Takesi Kitano, one of the best Filmakers of our time....pleeeeeeaaaaassseeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!! See Iam very desperate

Tekken movie will be released next year (2007), but not sure when . The Sony Corporation will sart "shooting" this year after Takeshi finishes with "Green Dragon Saber" ;D

I think Takeshi-san would have to buff up a bit for this role given that's it's categorized under (kewpie-chan sighs and shakes her head at the categorization of film) martial arts. Can't the film be called epic action/adventure instead of martial arts? I mean, that's what the story is based on right? History and it's an epic. LOL. The story is interesting and look forward to seeing it played on big screen. So Takeshi-san, kono tsugi wa nihon no jidaigeki/taiga dorama wo shittara?

hehe aww...see i don't have a problem with martial arts films! i'm one of those "coconut asians" (brown on the outside, white on the inside)...so martial arts is still cool to meee!

and i wouldn't mind it one bit when i think of House of Flying Daggers, cause i thought it was, simply, a breathtaking movie. on the downside though, this new movie has a lot to live up to.

I like martial arts films too. It's just that I cringe how some people as soon as they see a fight scene (be it with weapons or not) in an Asian movie it's lumped in "martial arts."
HOFD was different. Unlike "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" which was a martial arts film surrounding a love story, "HOFD" was the opposite....a love story surrounding martial arts.

In any case, Takeshi-san, kochira minasan ouen shitemasukara gambatte ne!

It's close to the middle of 2006, does that mean Takeshi's about to start filming this movie? I haven't read much on this, but it does sound cool. Z's in it too and that's nice, but yeah, her again. I like Z and I think she's awesome, but it's almost as if she's the only chinese actress to play in a martial arts movie. There has to be other candidates to play the role. I just wanted to see some other actress play beside Takeshi on this movie, since Z all ready did HOFD with him. It's like this might turn out into HOFD 2. How about Maggie Cheung or Kelly Hu? They've done their fair share of martial arts. One of them could take the role of Guan Yu's love interest.
