...But when he ties his sword to the tree and the squirrel is climbing on it is my favorite. He's so mischievous!!! Jin wouldn't have to save my life to "look all he wants"!! Mmm, I quite agree, Lilycat!

Wait a min, she threw the dagger so that Leo wouldnt kill Jin, she sacrificed herself for him, right? That's what I think too. I think Leo did not through the dagger to test her loyalty. I just finished watching this movie for like the thousandth time. When Jin sings at the end, I cry every time.

I've heard alot about this movie so I wanted to see for myself, and OMG!!! I loved it, and now I have to get it It was an amazing love story, and it was so romantic. People (women), like me, who long for someone so romantic and gentle can only find guys like this in movies.

Hi Princessyuko - Yes, HOFD is my favorite TK movie. I think I've watched it at least 50 times and have gotten all my friends to watch it too. It is a beautiful film and I also loved the romance and twists to the story. I recommend another TK movie you might like - "Sleepless Town". If you want a little peek at what the film looks like you should check out the video on the Fusion express section of this site - it is also a great video done to Aerosmith's "Dream On". Well Princessyuko - welcome to the forum and I look forward to many future postings. Windysgirl

I can't find any resemblance between Takeshi and Orlando bloom. I do like Orlando Bloom, bur, Mr. Kaneshiro is unique. And, please, he doesn't look like Keanu Reeves. For me, people considers Fung similar to Legolas. And, they really are. In fact, I have this theory of Legolas being the HERO MODEL since THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy. Sorry my bad English.

about the ending . . .
I think Leo wanted her to die, so he pretended to throw his dagger, knowing she would pull hers out and throw it as well. I don't think Leo really cared about killing Jin; making sure Mei couldn't be with anyone else is what mattered.
I think Mei's dagger missed because she was sorely wounded and near death. I think she would have killed Leo if her aim had been true.
I do wonder what happened to both Jin and Leo after the end of the movie. Do they both die in the snow?

About the ending... Mei didn't want to kill Leo because he wasn't anymore her love. In fact, in that moment, she felt nothing for him. But, yes, she wanted to save Fung, her love. She sacrificed herself for him. I like to wander that Leo returned to the Police and reported he had to kill Jin, because he was a traitor. Jin, died holding Mei and they were together forever. Pretty sad.

Zhang Yimou's commentary on the on the HOFD DVD provideds the motivation behind what Leo and Mei did in this final scene. Since I'm at work right now (ssssshhhhhhh!!) and don't have the DVD to watch, I'm simplifying a bit, but Leo basically wanted to die by Mei's hand. Remember, Mei had told Leo that she would kill him if he tried to kill Jin. So Leo figures if he throws the dagger at Jin, Mei will throw her dagger at him. But Mei's love for Jin was greater than her desire for revenge against Leo. I had a completely different take on this scene before the director's commentary.
I absolutely LOVE the shot in the movie where Mei's dagger deflects the drop of blood. That is a beautiful piece of filmmaking!
Oh yeah...VERY cool avatar lisab! ;D

Thanks! Can you tell the Oni series are some of my favorite games? I'm totally heartbroken Oni 4 won't star Samanosuke, but Takeshi's movie career is going gangbusters, so I doubt he would want to do it again.
And I love that shot too! The look on Jin's face--that's one hell of a piece of acting because you know there was nothing there for him to see. The dagger and blood were CG.

My favourite scene is when Wind and Mei are discussing about the future, after a very waited moment in the movie :-) He still tried to be an irresponsible wind asking when they could meet again. But, he realizes that the situation isn't like he wanted. A great movie! And Takeshi is truly a great actor.

I don't think Leo really cared about killing Jin; making sure Mei couldn't be with anyone else is what mattered. I think Mei's dagger missed because she was sorely wounded and near death. I think she would have killed Leo if her aim had been true. i agree....leo did that knowing mei would sacrifice her life to save jin. and mei's dagger didn't miss. she was aiming for leo's dagger....if you watch it again you can see that when she threw hers it caught leo's drop of blood and if he had thrown his dagger, it would have been the dagger along with his blood. i love the ending, although i secretly wished that mei wouldn't have died and jin and mei would live happily ever after....but with that aside, there's leo claimiing he loves her yet he kills her and jin and mei are willing to sacrifice their own lives for one another.....now that is true love my friends. i just love this movie so much. before i saw it i had no idea it was lovestory and thought it was just some actionpact movie....now it's my all-time favorite.
