i think he's alone, unhappy, has a difficult time connecting with his peers, and may be facing a block in his work where he feels his art is not going to the next level [just like we have been discussing amoingst ourselves]. i think, for any of us who are people who pray, we should pray for takeshi. JUST MY OPINIONS!! I hope you're right, Veronica, I hope it's only unhappiness that's been affecting him lately. It's a lot easier to make someone happy than to make them stop taking drugs or cure them of AIDS. I don't think he's gay either. I suspect, though, he might have had liasons with men just to explore that part of himself - he strikes me as an adventurous person who would try things out before deciding on something. Sometimes I think he could be bisexual, maybe in more recent times, when he was younger he seemed so boyish & into girls that such a thing couldn't have been possible. I've always thought that he & HK actress Charlie Young made a good couple. And there was talk about them being an item for a while, they have a carefree rapport with each other, she seemed to lighten his pensive moods. They were in Fallen Angels, Young Policemen In Love, Downtown Torpedoes & Dr. Wai together. But she got married to someone else around '97-'98 & retired from the HK film industry, so something must have happened between them. (She's out of retirement & back making HK films now. WOnder if she's still married ... wonder if TK & her would do a movie together.) Curiously too, he stopped making a lot of HK movies around that time and started making inroads in the Japanese market. Could it be that his heart was broken by Charlie & he left HK because of those sad memories? Also, he was churning out movies up until '98, after that it was 1 movie a year ... when you're depressed you don't have energy to work. And the weight loss, the darker movie roles ... something's going on. I just want to help him - tell him that he's got so many people who adore him and want the best for him. 'Course fan adoration doesn't make up for loneliness & true love ... it's unbelievable that this man cannot find love - is there any hope for us mere mortals then? Where's his mom, she needs to tell him to eat more! (I'll pray for him, too, that he eats more & smiles more & can find some happiness!) Wow , Webmaster, that's a great pic of TK smiling!! WHo's that woman in white? Where do you get all these great pictures? Can you post them all on this site? Is that possible? Can you do it soon?

Also, he was churning out movies up until '98, after that it was 1 movie a year ... when you're depressed you don't have energy to work. And the weight loss, the darker movie roles ... something's going on. As far as I know, Charlie was never married. She was in a long and serious relationship with this guy then they split. Now she's doing movies again. The rumors in the mid 90's when "Takeshi and Charlie" were an item... actually there was someone else involved, Nick Wu? He's also from Taiwan. So it was like Takeshi and Nick were trying to win Charlie over. Some said that Nick got the girl and Takeshi left empty-handed. But what was really the truth? Who knows... I think Charlie is a fun girl although she's long been "outdated" per se... 'cause when I was younger (around 11 or 12 years old...) she was already an very very "out" person to be talked about. She definitely wasn't the "it girl" for a loong time. Now she's back but it's NOT the same. She looks like a quiet, elegant girl on the outside but she is actually a tomboyish, care-free and friendly kinda girl. I think that is pretty cool. She and Takeshi seem to be two kinds of very different personalities. Takeshi is a deep thinker while Charlie is like the happy-go-lucky, all-over-the-place kinda girl.. (I don't mean she is an airhead don't get me wrong!) So yeah, when they're together I think it sorta balance it out. I doubt that it was because of Charlie that Takeshi decided to go for Japan... if they really were together at one point, it still wouldn't be for the girl that he wanted out. Takeshi actually started to get into the Japan market in 1996 and then slowly there came the opportunity of doing "God please give me more time" in 98. It's hard to say where I got the pictures... they're from my collection that I've searched through the net in the past and now. I'll post them on my TK website and I already got a bunch on there... but I gotta find the time to sort them all out Maintaining a website can be a lot of work......

[glow=blue,2,300]I walk a lonely road The only one that I have ever known Don't know where it goes But its home and I walk alone I walk this empty street On the Blvd. of broken dreams Where the city sleeps And I'm the only one and I walk alone My shadows the only one that walks beside me My shallow hearts the only thing that's beating Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me Till then I'll walk alone[/glow]

Muscular & macho, the antithesis of TK. Nicky & Charlie were quite the popular movie couple in the mid '90s, director Tsui Hark loved to put them together, they were in his movies The Lovers & Love in the Time of Twilight. In fact, the "love triangle" were all in Young Policemen in Love (TK got Charlie in the end though, take that Nicky!) and some HK TV dramas too. Actually it seemed like TK & Nicky had a good onscreen rapport (they were also in Jail in Burning Island & 1 of the No Sir movies together). They had a lot in common, both were from Taiwan, around the same age & pop stars. Nicky played the straight leading man roles & TK was the goofball. Charlie's not very bright if she chose Nicky though! I shouldn't talk, I had quite the crush on Nicky back in the day, making me overlook poor TK! TK made fun of the Nicky-Charlie duo in "China Dragon." TK & Athena Chu from China Dragon satirized Charlie & Nicky from The Lovers. In one part, TK's dressed like a scholar with his hair in a bun & he starts winking at Athena who's making faces at him, TK takes off his hair bun & there's an actual "bun" in it & starts eating it! But the thought of the Love Triangle makes me wonder how much of it was truth & how much was the HK publicity machine. Yeah, Charlie doesn't seem like the young carefree girl she was at the height of her popularity, age & experience shows on her face. It's a shame, she really had an effervescent spirit before and it just made her glow at times. Speaking of age, Webmaster is much younger than I thought she was! Either that or I'm much older than I think I am ... keep up the good work on TK's website, it is a lot of work to maintain it, I'm sure. But you're doing an excellent job & we TK fans definitely appreciate that!

OH!! You know what I thought watching "Young policemen in love" and other really old TK movies?? Poor TK... he never got the girls he wanted! Like in "Young...", the girls were always more interested in Nicky Wu than TK. He tried so hard to make an impression but never really successed. He played the "loser"; couldn't get "some" but liked bluffing about it. At the end he and Charlie didn't get together 'cause she had to leave.. as far as I remember. It's so different now. In the past, he used to be the one chasing after girls in movies and left empty-handed. Now it's the other way around! Look at "Turn Left, turn right", he got so freaked out when that girl was trying to hit on him or something in the beginning of the movie....

Look at "Turn Left, turn right", he got so freaked out when that girl was trying to hit on him or something in the beginning of the movie.... Charlie did have to leave to go back to the Mainland in "Young Policemen in Love." She was an undercover cop disguised as the dorky girl that the guys were supposed to protect. But she definitely choose TK before she left, they had the last romantic scene together at the airport. Before she's about to leave, she give TK a letter which reads, ".... separation is sad but I am happy to know you ..." & looks longingly at him. TK beat Nicky! Actually Nicky wasn't even competing for Charlie in YPIL, Nicky got the guy's female police inspector. Even though the girl had to leave, in theory, TK got the girl. Nobody got the girl in Ann Magdalena. Too bad for that movie, I thought it would've been a nice, if predictible ending, if the shy guy (TK) got the girl. As it turned out, it was a rather flat unmemorable ending. I rather like TK as the shy unpopular boy. He's so cute like that, kinda helpless, trying so hard. You just want to give him a big hug (ehr - or something else ;D) and just say, "it's ok, TK. She doesn't like you, but I do. Come & play with me!"

Webmaster, Who is the girl in white next to TK in the Cannes 2004 for HOFD picture you post? I cant recall saw her b4 from other pics somewhere. not that i would know for sure, but she looks to me to be just someone there. i saw this same pic from another angle and she's not there. i think probably she's just someone who happened to be walking in front of him or she could be someone in his "entourage"? she's not in the photos from the airport at cannes 2004. i don't think she's anyone, at least not like a date/girlfriend.

Could the woman in white be his manager? There seems to be a comfortable "I know this guy" look about her smile. I am just seeing things?

I don't know who that woman is. Yep, could be just a passer-by... his "entourage" or his manager. I have never seen his manager though! As I know she is someone just as mysterious as TK himself; she is a beautiful woman as I've read but not a whole lot of fans have seen her (or her picture). Strange....

Regarding TK's smoking & drinking, perhaps it is more of a cultural thing than anything else. In Asia, it's seems to be more socially acceptable for men to smoke and drink heavily (and I don't mean just beer!) than in North America - think of the Salarymen and their drinking binges. There isn't the same social pressure to quit smoking and abstain from alcohol for health reasons.

There isn't the same social pressure to quit smoking and abstain from alcohol for health reasons. And it really hasn't affected the Asian mortality rate either, at least I haven't heard of any scientific proof that Asians have a higher rate of lung cancer or alcoholism. Or maybe no one has bothered to do the research? I really wish in this area, TK was more of a "maverick," and not smoke or drink as much as some Asian men. Although this is the first time that I've heard that he drinks a lot. I'm really disappointed that he's not paying more attention to his health. He obviously looks like an animal & nature lover, he especially seems to act so sweet & gentle with pets. How ironic that when it comes to himself, he's just dumping toxins into his body! "The Odd One Dies" is my favorite TK movie, but he does abnormally inhale a lot of smoke in this one. It literally makes me cringe & I ignore its implications by telling myself that it's required of the character. Yeah, right. (There's 1 scene in this movie where he's lighting up & practically scorches his gorgeous face - no! Anything but that! I don't think that was part of the script!) Bottom line, TK needs to take better care of himself. Sometimes I see a sadness in his eyes that's beyond his years - and unfortunately, with his smoking & drinking habit, he might be doing that to his body as well. Ooy!

That's what I read from other TK forums in Chinese about her being "beautiful". I don't know who stired that up! Many of his fans have not seen his manager too and they wanna take a look 'cause like you've probably read it from my site, his name had been linked to hers... romantically. So of course we wanna see what she looks like
