This is another example of TK's penchant for strange films. The two characters in this film are at times so filthy it makes me itch. But TK still looks good dirty!Synopsis: Kaneshiro plays a somewhat dim-witted Triad wannabe who takes a low-paying hit job to make a name for himself. However, after winning a lot of money at a casino, he wants to get out of the job, so he hires a Mainlander (Lee) to finish it. While planning the job (which seems like suicide), they of course fall in love and must decide who is going to complete the kamikazi hit. Taken from hkfilm.net ----- The secret world of contract killing comes in to focus in this dark comical tale of Hong Kong triad life. Mo (Takeshi Kaneshiro) is a low-life gangster who is offered a huge fee to commit murder. But on the day before the contracted assassination is to take place- he bets all of his money at a casino and wins a fortune, and then sets out to hire another hitman for the job. Unexpectedly, the new killer turns out to be an expert hitwoman (Carman Lee) Taken from asian-movies.dk ----- A failure of a Triad who is desperate for money decides to accept an assassination mission. With his advance in money he decides to risk it in gambling, he becomes lucky and wins a fortune. With all this money he is not so sure that he wishes to do the murder anymore, he looks for a hitman to take his place. He finds a woman willing to take the job but she ends up more trouble than he expected. He ends up falling in love with her and he is not sure about sending her to kill or to do the job himself and take the risk. During the next few days they will prepare to make the hit.

An alternative title for this film could be "How to smoke and look sexy at it" There are a lot of scenes where Takeshi smokes, and he looks all the time so hot!!! And it's true, even with his "dirty" look, he can't help it, he just looks gorgeous. Love m_j

SERIOUSLY Takeshi smokes like a fiend in this one (and the girl too) They must've scrubbed 20 packs of cigs off each other.

Alright, I'm on a mission to get all of TK's fans to see this AWESOME movie!! It's my fav of his right now, even surpassing HOFD. He is sooo good in it - it encompasses (did I spell that right?) everything that's great about him: the goofball, the isolationist, the stubborn headstrong don't-know-what-you're-getting-into guy, the artist, the brute, the romantic, the seducer, the oddball, the icon, the humanist, and most of all the TENDER-HEARTED superman!
The most obvious reason that TOOD (The Odd One Dies) is so good is because TK is in 95% of all the scenes. And he's soooo cute! Especially in the scene where he's looking to buy a car and ignores the car saleman until he gets interested in the salesman's ancient cell phone. TK then grabs the phone & absurdly poses with it in wacky ways - that scene is priceless!
Also, there's a lot of romantic chemistry between him & female co-star, Carmen Lee. THere's even a love/sex scene - tastefully done, though.
Check TOOD out - it's really funny! TK hardly talks that much in it but he makes a big impression. It shows you how much he can really act & it's a shame that more people don't see this movie. Plus, it proves a movie with just TK is definitely worth watching!
See this movie!!

TK is a maverick truer words were never spoken! he is SUCH a maverick. he's incredible, and i think there is STILL so much un-tapped genius there. with actors like takeshi who are so special, it's like mining for gold. it takes the right script and the right director to tap into what's there. takeshi has only so far been able to scratch the surface, IMO, and it has been amazing. just imagine what else he has in store as the scripts and directors get better and better. i can't wait to see what he does during the rest of his 30's.

Yep and how I love a maverick!
TK does (did) a lot of oddball movies but for some reason he doesn't do thriller and horror? I would like to see him in an intense thriller.. the kind that would knock your socks off? hehe. I want him to put his acting skills to the maximum. I wanna go... "oh my god he can really act!!".

Have you seen Wrath of Silence (HK 1994)? It's supposedly a scary/thriller kind of a movie-but HK movies really aren't all that scary or thrillery ... anyway, it stars Anita Yuen and Takeshi is a Dr. who's suspected of murdering her sister or something like that. I saw it way before I was into Takeshi, uhm, but I can't remember much about it or much about him in it! Definitely agree that TK is a maverick & an untapped genius ... just wish that his projects were on par with his talent ... one of these days his talent will just explode & he'll get deserved recognition as a good actor. He'll get even better with time, like good wine - so tasty! Has anyone noticed how skinny & unhealthy he's looking lately? Why doesn't he smile anymore? I used to see pictures of him smiling in the old days and now he has this grim face. What's with that? Is he sick, on drugs, AIDS ... why so tired looking? He's just averaging 1 movie per year ... in the past he would make lots more & still smile.

Has anyone noticed how skinny & unhealthy he's looking lately? Why doesn't he smile anymore? I used to see pictures of him smiling in the old days and now he has this grim face. What's with that? Is he sick, on drugs, AIDS ... why so tired looking? He's just averaging 1 movie per year ... in the past he would make lots more & still smile. even though i'm a new fan, even i can see the difference. when i started researching about him, i could see how different he looked from past photos and how different his attitude was from past interviews, etc. something is going on. he's very, very thin. it is so noticeable. his legs and arms are sticks. and the reason he looks "grim" is because his face is so lean from the weight loss. when he has the weight in his face then he glows. too much weight loss can make a person's face look hard and hollow. weight gain makes them look soft and glowing. i saw something in a recent article where takeshi was asked about his weight loss [so he is aware that people notice!!] and his [odd] reply was "well, i think it's okay to be skinny sometimes. i don't even go to the gym". that really wasn't the right answer. now, of course takeshi's lifestyle is a mystery because none of us really knows any celebrity. but i don't believe takeshi is gay. i know that topic has been bantered about a lot on this board and so far i have not participated, mainly because i simply don't believe he's gay and i have my reasons which are hard to explain and i'm just not interested in wasting my time arguing about it. having said that, i reaaaaaaaaaaally don't think he has AIDS. i also don't think he's on drugs. the signs are just not there. you know what? it's just my own humble opinion, but i really believe he is unhappy. simple as that. for a minute i wondered if his weight loss was connected to his buddhism, that maybe with his studies he's been trying to go to a deeper level, maybe fasting? but he smokes so much! and drinks a fair amount, from what i hear. so if he were trying to go to a deeper level with his religion, he would have to cut out the cigs and the booze, as well as trimming down the diet if fasting was the issue. so i don't think it's that. i think he might be miserable, unhappy, lonely. i seriously doubt he has a girlfriend, despite recent rumors of an old ex-girlfriend. IMO, that's baloney. i think he's alone, unhappy, has a difficult time connecting with his peers, and may be facing a block in his work where he feels his art is not going to the next level [just like we have been discussing amoingst ourselves]. i think, for any of us who are people who pray, we should pray for takeshi. JUST MY OPINIONS!!
