I'm not a fan of Orlando Bloom.. not saying he isn't good looking though. My other love is Jude Law I'm with you I'm not a fan of Orlando Bloom either, but I think he can be quite good-looking at times. Jude Law is definately a hottie though

Here's a review of the DVD from IGN Insider that compares Kaneshiro to Brad Pitt: dvd.ign.com/articles/604/604412p1.html" .... Japan's answer to Brad Pitt, Takeshi Kaneshiro. Kaneshiro is quite the sensation in Asia. Part-Chinese (Taiwanese, to be exact) and part-Japanese, he's a model turned actor who speaks both of those languages plus English, and is a huge star in both Hong Kong and Japan. Judging by the reaction of female fans on message boards, he may break through here, too." Enjoy!

thanks for taking the time to post that. it didn't get such a great review, but it's awesome that the writer singled out TAKESHI among all the rest to compliment. he is so well-deserving of the flattery. i don't get the comparison to brad pitt. eeesh, don't let me get started on this. must everyone be compared to brad pitt?? and for takeshi, the comparison doesn't fit. he is too one-of-a-kind and unlike anyone else. i don't agree with a lot that the writer said about the movie. complaining that the peony palace scenes were too colorful, hurt his eyes?? get real. it was gorgeous. it bugs me, too that he went through the trouble of singling out takeshi for praise but of all the pictures shown throughout the article not *one* of them is of takeshi! (the small one at the end with the arrow hiding his face doesn't count!) well, maybe a bunch of people will get curious and just google his name. then, they'll get a nice eyeful of takeshi-goodness!

Who's to say Brad Pitt isn't America's answer to Takeshi? Sure, Brad started his career before Takeshi, but Takeshi is a lot more talented and versatile as an actor....not to mention a lot more gorgeous!

I think the similarity between Takeshi and Brad Pitt--is that both of them enjoy a current popularity and both make many a woman's heart flutter when they're on screen--i.e.--Brad Pitt in 'Troy'; Takeshi in 'House of Flying Daggers'( the movie that 'officially' introduced Takeshi to the Western hemisphere). It's their box office appeal that make them both the darling of the media and the movie-going crowd. One other thing that both have in common is that they're both smokers ; Brad Pitt gave it up when he had to beef-up for "Troy'--hopefully, he has given it up for good; but, as far as we know--our Takeshi still smokes quite a bit--unless someone out there has news that he has totally quit smoking?

Ugh.. Brad Pitt, or as I call him, Bad Pritt.
I seriously do not see what people see in him. He's a horrible actor and ugly as sin.

Please, please, please, enough of this Orlando Bloom bashing , or bashing of any other star here that someone may happen to like along with dear TK, for that matter. Thank you. Oh, I don't think TK looks in the least bit like Keanu Reeves anymore than TK bears any resemblance whatsoever to Orlando Bloom, imo. But then, I personally feel like comparing these three actors is like comparing apples to oranges, or apples to car parts. Just my opinion, so no need for anyone's feathers to get ruffled. Peace... Now, to go back to the topic at hand, I do feel that HOFD got short-shrifted on awards from various academies, which has only added to my taking these different institutions less and less seriously over the years.

Regarding the DVD--House of Flying Daggers that just debuted last Tuesday--for anyone who's interested--the special features are super--considering that is has English subs, too,--and 45 minutes long. Lots of Takeshi in it! Furthermore, I think it's worth adding this great movie to your Takeshi film collection--considering that this is his initial foray into mainstream cinema!

I had never heard or seen Kaneshiro before this film and I thought he was breath-takingly beautiful. Everything about the film was beautifully shot, but he was the best looking guy I had seen on screen since Brad Pitt. What are the best films to see him in for American fans? I watched the THE RETURNER and hated it, I found it too silly to enjoy. I would love to watch him in something great like HOFD again. Any ideas?

Any ideas? be prepared for a let-down if you're hoping to see him again just like he was in HOFD. takeshi's roles are very diverse. he is amazingly talented but he doesn't do the same stuff over and over. you have to see 'chungking express' and 'fallen angels' absolutely (i think the other fans will agree with me on this)...in that order: CE first and then FA. they were made in '94 and '95...young takeshi at about age 21/22 was brilliant already. there are so many others, you should read all the movie threads in the forum and see what sounds interesting to you. takeshi is a lightning rod. you'll have a great time getting to know his work, but you'll have to keep an open mind because it may be that you won't like all the movies he's in but you WILL like all his performances. 'returner' is not an example of his best work.

'returner' is not an example of his best work. That's a matter of opinion. I thought "Returner" was a cute movie that you didn't have to think and ponder. You didn't have to think ahead. It was just go, go go.
