Hey Windysgirl! I just got back from Best Buy. They didn't have Sleepless Town so I guess I'll have to order it online.
I did pick up Twilight Samurai though. I also bought GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka) Dark Water (original Japanese version) and Guns and Talks (some Korean Movie) I'll Watch these when I can.

Hi Samanosuke - it should only take a couple of days to receive Sleepless Town if you order it. Best Buy.com has free shipping if you order at least $30 worth of dvd's. I'd be interested in hearing about the other movies after you see them.

Am I so glad that I checked out this thread last night. I had no idea that Sleepless Town was being released here, and for only $15. That's seems unheard of for an import. Though I did buy Chunking Express at Suncoast Video last weekend for $10. I am leaving work in 5 minutes and going to Best Buy, where they are holding for me the last copy in stock. I'm gonna be busy all weekend, but I will find time to fit in Takeshi!! Thanks so much for the release info, Windysgirl. Another reason why this forum is great.
BTW, I watched Chunking Express again this week and squealed in delight. I had forgotten how cute Takeshi is in this movie. Especially when he says that a dog is supposed to be man's best friend, so why won't his share in his grief.

Hi All! Well, I went to BestBuy the other week to get the copy of Sleepless Town that they were supposed to hold for me, but no one could find it!! I left empty-handed and disappointed. No TK for me (T T) But, I did just put it on my NetFlix queue. No, Windysgirl, I have never seen ST, but I am really looking forward to seeing TK play a different kind of character. NetFlix has added some more TK movies to its offerings-- Downtown Torpedoes, Fallen Angles and Odd One Dies. They are all on my queue now. Can't wait!!!!!

I have checked NetFlix before for TK movies and I had never seen Sleepless Town, Downtown Torpedoes and Odd One Dies. But, maybe I am wrong. Maybe they have been up there. Nonetheless, it's proof of TK's growing popularity in the west. It would be so nice to see some of his dramas translated into English and released here.

luckystar - ebay is a risky place to buy movies. Some sellers do not honestly give you the right info about a movie. Usually if the movie is legitimate you can go to other websites like amazon.com and check to see if the subtitles are removable. However, since ebay sellers sell many bootleg dvds there is no sure way to check to see if the subtitles are removable or not. You can just send the seller a note and ask him if the subs are embedded or removable
It would be best if you buy Sleepless Town on best buy's website. I think that dvd version has removable subtitles.
If you don't mind buying bootlegs then buying movies on ebay would be ok.

I just finished watching Sleepless Town. I can't say it is one of my favorite TK movies, though I did like seeing him play a different kind of character. And yes, Takeshi is black leather is a good thing. But, no one has mentioned Takeshi in a towel at the onsen or in black silk boxers!!! Downtown Torpedoes and Odd One Dies are next on my NetFlix queue, so my education in TK cinema will continue...

Hi TK Fans!
I finally watched Sleepless Town and was not disappointed! What a great TK flick- I kinda was suffering from TK withdrawal and this movie was a great pick-me-up. Takeshi again proves his acting prowess and versatility. He always makes his character very real- very believable.
Agree with TickTake, I have yet to see an actress that can live up to his abilities..he does outshine them( though he would never say that..) I believe he would do better with a seasoned actress and Maggie Cheung sounds like a great choice!!
I have to say I really enjoyed all his love scenes with Natesumi... is it my imagination or is that the most love scenes TK has done in one movie?? Black boxers? Not bad! He was very sexy in his leathers and ponytail- my fav!!
Windysgirl- now I know why this is one of your favorite TK movies!!

Hi Tatiana - what's the haps? Yea, TK was pretty [glow=red,2,300]hot[/glow] in Sleepless Town. I am anxious for some new TK movies too. I keep looking for something on the sites that sell DVD's, but of course there isn't anything new - until "Perhaps Love". I can't wait!!!!! I am looking forward to Golden Ball, God, Give Me More Time, and TK's Antartic Adventure - TK films I haven't seen. I hope I'm lucky enough to get them. I still recommend Space Travelers (my 3rd favorite TK movie) to you. You can only get a region 3 version though. Tata for now, WG |
