Swellboy, I'm going to venture to guess that the other actor who you'd compare TK to is Orlando Bloom? Orlando is very sexy too! I don't think there's anything wrong with comparing actors, we all do it all the time. I just cringe when people refer to someone as a young "Marilyn Monroe" or an American "Jean Reno" or something like that. FOr me, those kinds of references make it seem like the only frame of reference is the well-known actor & the other actor is just a shadow waiting to come to life. Just a personal opinion. TK has done an American indie movie. Based on what I've read, although I'm not 100% sure, my memory is sketchy sometimes, "Too Tired to Die" was an American indie. It was made by Korean-American director Wonsuk Chin & released in 1998. IMHO, the movie's interesting at best and disjointed at least, but it shows that TK is on the radar for some American film makers. Lets hope that he's on the radar of those who have good projects on line! I am really optimistic that he'll be successful in America (if not Hollywood) one day. I recently gave a copy of "THe Odd One Dies" to an African-American friend of mine who likes Jet Li films & HOFD. I wasn't sure whether my friend would like or even understand this small, modern & non-kung fu HK movie treasure. But low & behold, my friend really liked it! He even got the humor, liked the filmmaking & most importantly, thought TK was really cool & hilarious in the film. Just goes to show that taste & talent knows no boundaries!

Hi OleWiseOne, Well, I must come clean and 'fess up that you guessed absolutely right that Orlando Bloom was the other actor I was comparing TK too. Glad you find Orli (Orlando's actual nickname, for those who don't happen to know, like "Aniki" is for TK) sexy too! I just hope that nobody now posts some "How could you even *think* of comparing TK to him?!" message here, now that I let the cat out of the bag. It's just my personal opinion and it sounds like it happens to be yours too. Btw, I agree with everything you say about comparing actors in a respectful way that doesn't put a current actor in some screen legend's/other current actor's "shadow". I am hoping that my local video and DVD store that tends to carry a lot of indie and cult films will eventually acquire the 1998 English-speaking film TOO TIRED TO DIE. I saw a preview of it online and was very intrigued. I liked how Mira Sorvino played such an interesting role. (I won't be specific here, as I would be a "spoiler" for others on this forum.) Yes, taste and talent knows no boundaries-- at least the latter doesn't. Some would argue that taste has its limitations. *Chuckle*

If Hollywood had one ounce of brain power, it would understand that Asia makes up more than 1/2 of the world's population. And in TK, there's an amazingly handsome, versatile (he can play comedy, romance, drama & action) actor who appeals to women AND men, and who can already speak 5 languages and who is still under 35! What a combination!! Putting him a movie, partically guarrantees its success just based on the fan base that he has now. Plus, he really adds so much class to any film he appears in. same here...

I know a lot of people are crazy about him, but he just doesn't have that kind of effect on me. In LOTR, he just looked so boyish. I was crazy about Viggo instead. It's not just looks. TK and Viggo has the charisma that I don't find in Orlando. But of cos, it's a matter of taste.

Temptingheart: Well, I happen to respectfully disagree with you about Orli, whom I find both charismatic and talented (and I don't think we've seen the best of him yet in his movie career). But, as you said, it's a matter of taste. Naturally, since this is a TK fan forum, the overwhelming majority of folks here (if not all) are, of course, going to hugely favor TK over Orli-- or anyone, for that matter. That said, I hope that other people don't feel the need to jump on the bandwagon and start posting that they too find TK "more talented", "sexier", etc. than Orlando Bloom (whom I thought was brilliant as Legolas in LOTR; he truly seemed like an elf in all sorts of ways, including in a unique, rare combination of great sensuality while also being etherial, the way I personally understand elves are supposed to be). I'll take that as a big, well-understood given here: "TK rules!" Well, for us fans here, of course he does. I just happen to like a few other actors a lot too (and I'm sure that's the case for many here, but it seems tacitly understood that other actors/celebrities are not discussed at length or too often, and when they are brought up, it's in relation to TK somehow). I promise not to bring up Orli again, which I was trying to avoid doing anyway, but I couldn't resist responding to yet another perceptive, astute, and pleasant posting of dear OleWiseOne's. You help draw me out of the woodwork on this forum, OleWiseOne, and I really appreciate that. Pardon my sensitivity, people. I'm just that way by nature and I happen to readily defend someone/something that I value. This includes the fact that I'd gladly go to bat for TK anytime someone happened to put him down somehow. Let's here it for the great, lovely TK! Peace and Fun Everyone, Swellboy

I don't find Orlando good looking at ALL. I think he's hideous. When you look at the majority of Hollywood movies, Asians are usually depicted as the 9-5 Ma and Pa store types. Well, maybe not majority, but sometimes, Hollywood doesn't take other ethnic backgounrds seriously at times. Hispanic and Africans are setteled which is great, considering how racist many can be. "Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle" is a treat!! I haven't seen the whole movie (blame the DVD player) but I saw some and what a CHANGE!! Harold is Korean and Kumar is East Indian and they're not depicted as "Kwik-E-Mart" employes!! If Takeshi were to come to Hollywood, I wonder if he'll be taken seriously. Of course, there's a side of me that wants him NOT to be well known in Hollywood and have a "secret" (it's not totally secret, but I think you know what I mean) fan base like us here for example. I wonder if you get what I mean. I feel the same way towards Vincent. I want him to stay such a small actor!! However, no matter if he makes it or not, he'll always have me as his fan.

You help draw me out of the woodwork on this forum, OleWiseOne, and I really appreciate that. Peace and Fun Everyone, Swellboy Flattery will get you everywhere, Swellboy! You're making me blush calling me perceptive, astute and pleasant - oh, uhm, DON'T STOP!! But seriously folks: LET FREEDOM RING, and IMHO, let ALL OPINIONS BE HEARD and let us respect our fellow post-ers as they respect us. Please don't feel the need to whisper your adoration for Orli, Swellboy. While I don't lust (is that word pc enough to use here?) after Orli like you do, I can see his appeal to you & his many fans. I see the seductive, sexy, slinky manner of his and I've always found him a solid actor in all of the movies I've seen him in so far. I must say that I was convinced he was 6'0" tall and blond & blue-eyed from LOTRs and was quite disappointed when I found out that he's about 5'9" (shorter than TK), brown-eyed with brown wavy hair. I also found him cowardly amusing in Troy & ever the dashing hero in Privates of the Caribbean. He's aaalllright in my book, no TK, but I see your comparison & I check you one. I don't think Orli is hideous at all. And I also wish I knew who this "Vincent" is that Miss Carlos is referring to. And, I couldn't agree with Veronica more about Keanu Reeves, I've been in love with him since Bill & Ted (and before) and I see similarities in both TK & Keanu. They're both very very good physical actors, better in non-speaking scenes (especially Keanu, who still has his surfer dude accent even at 40) than with lenghty dialogue. Well, alright, TK's good in everything, but y'all get my drift. Both gorgeous men of mixed heritage who like pushing boundaries and taking on non-traditional projects. Anyone else we should compare TK too?

Oh, THAT Vincent. Yeah, how could I forget those abs! Don't think TK has abs like those. So, that's where you get your screen name from ... it's all making sense to me now ...

He's Carlos's voice actor, Carlos Oliveira from the Resident Evil series.
My face is so RED right now!!

Ok, now I'm confused again! Mwah?! Vincent is the voice actor for Carlso? Eh, why would Carlos need a voice actor and why should voice actors have abs like those? Who can see those abs when he's recording, he's just wasting time in the gym then, move on Miss Carlos. Find someone whose appeal will be as clear for all to see. BTW, I want TK to make it big in North America (I included Canada, eh) - when you have a good thing you have to share it - it's the human thing to do.

THIS is Carlos: Vincent's happily married. With the ideas I have for Takeshi, he'd come to Canada. Believe ME!!

You are not well, Miss Carlos, I repeat, you are not well. I hate to be the first one to tell you ... uh, the man you've named yourself after is NOT REAL! That's right, he's even more out-of-reach to you than TK, that's doubly right, you'll never have children with Carlos. Go back to doing sensible things like playing in a metal band and with your video games because you are not living in reality with Mr. Carlos. Geez, somebody help this girl. Give her a dose of TK loving care!

And I say this with kindness. You think you're the first to tell me that? Many think he isn't real but he's based off an actual person. Seriously!! He just got more textured or something (Regina from Dino Crisis is an actual Japanese model, a real female). He's a video game character. I know. Fantasies never hurt anyone. No harm is being doe. He's a great escape from reality. AND, I also found a guy who look exactly like him but due to where I found him, I can't post him up. Samanosuke is based off of two real people: Takeshi and a Chinese martial arts artist. In the Devil May Cry series, the characters are based off real people. Same with Resident Evil 2. There's some realistic traits of each character in the Resident Evil series.
