Has TK had plastic surgery? His eyes in his early pics/films (ex: Chungking Express, Lost & Found) look different from his more recent ones (ex: The Returner, HOFD).

Yeah, I was kind of wondering about that myself. The most change I can see is that he seems to have lost his "baby fat" (if you can even call it that) from his face and he's got a more chiseled, sharp look to him now. I tried to look at his eyes to see if he'd done anything to it, but it's not a big-enough difference so I can't tell. At the most, it could be just the natural evolution his face is going through as he's aging, which in his case is almost like a work of art. You can see all the pics, current and old, and marvel at how different he looks in so many of them. www.takeshikaneshiro.us/index.php?action=view&gll=1

I think the chiselled features are due to weight loss but I definately think he's had surgery on the eyes. Simply compare him in "Lost and Found" and "The Returner" - he also looked healthier in the former.

hahaha... this is funny. i was gonna start a thread about this since the fans in most other TK forums in Chinese had debated about his "eyelids". Most people don't think he's gone under the knife although his eyes are noticeably different... actually he as a whole looks quite different nowadays. It could be that he's aged and looks do change as you age. His manager spoke for him again (the rumor was bad enough that she had to say something about it) said that "Takeshi doesn't even like to take pictures! He's not the kind of person who'd get a plastic surgery! He just looks more mature now." Has he had a surgery or not? There's no conclusion. I don't expect his manager to be telling the truth all the time either. I personally hope he hasn't done anything. I mean if TK needs surgeries every other guy needs it too! However I wouldn't be surprised if he really had it... looks are really important especially to the people in the show business. And the guy is in Japan! It's like the capital of cosmetic surgery in Asia... (Korea might be catching up though? ) I've made a copule of "side by side" photos though! Now you can see clearly what we're talking about. I probably shouldn't label it "before and after" as if he really did have something done It should be "10 years ago" and "10 years later" LOok at the eyes and even the nose.

thanks for the photos. The eylids seem to have a little more crease to them -- not dramatic but a light crease. But the nose, even in HOFD at certain angles his nose looked at times more wide at the base, other times not, so I don't know about that one.
In any case, his face definitely looks leaner in the older pics.

Post script: I looked at the pics from "LOST AND FOUND" and noticed his eyelids were lightly creased, whereas the "before" pics here really don't show that.
Though SamIam seems to think TK looks different in "Lost and Found" from how he looks now, I think if TK had cosmetic surgery, he had already had it by the time he made this movie, going by his eyelids.

The cinematography in Chungking Express is dark and gritty, where as HOFD's looks sharp and vivid. So his eyes looked huge in HOFD because the film's lighting is brighter and crisper than Chungking's.
I feel as if Takeshi's changes in his looks are attributed to him getting older, weighing less, and camera tricks. Although, I can not shut out the possibility that he could have gotten some surgery. At this point, I believe that airbrushing, lighting, shooting at certain angles, makeup, hair, and having a world class photographer/director makes him look different.

I agree , I guess all his different looks are more due to the camera tricks, light, hair, make-up etc, but specially because of the "baby fat" he lost in the last years. At the beginning I also thought he might had surgery on his eyes but if you look closer, specially his old films like "The odd one dies" he looks different depending on the angle throughout the whole film. In some takes his eyes look as big and beautiful as today so I really think he just looks older and more mature, and sexier every day! Love m_j

I don't know if Takeshi had plastic surgery or not, but it matters little to me. I've seen some of his very early photos where he looks absolutely gorgeous. As far as I am concerned, plastic surgery would have been done very very early in his life.
Speaking from personal experience, I know that it's possible to have gone from having eyes like TK had in his younger days to the kind of eyes he has now.
This is one man that has so many looks. If you didn't know it was Takeshi, you'd sometimes think it was someone else.

Wow! This is an interesting topic. I personally don't care if he has done it or not. He has the most gorgeous oriental face to begin with anyway.I just love the shape of his face. he might have reshaped his eyelid on the right side to balance with left eyelid. It looks very natural though. To me , that is as same as wearing braces . it is his job being beautiful. In Asia, there are so many ways to do plastic surgery, as for the eyelid surgery, it it is way advanced and it can be done without making an incision sometimes. cost is very reasonable also.

Hmm?
Well, he tans now. Because is those "Before" pics he looks lighter than the "After" ones.
If he did do anything to his nose it's minimal. Though, having taken photography it is possible it's the lighting. Still... I think he might have tweaked something, which isn't bad at all. If anything, that is how plastic surgery should be done.
anyway, what I did notice is his lips are a bit bigger in the "after" shots.

The change in facial features is starkest if you take one of the "before" shots and contrast it with the recent photos from Cannes. They look like two totally different people.
The real question is why is plastic surgery for the eyes so popular in Asia? Why not accept yourself for who you are and embrace diversity? Prime example was a popular Japanese American model years ago (don't recall her name but she was the one who had an affair w/ A. Jolie). Otherwise everyone starts looking like they came from the same cookie cutter, especially if they go to the same plastic surgeon!

I guess the reason is the same for any Westerners who have a nose job done. It's ostensibly to make yourself look better. As you may know, a lot of Asians naturally have creases in their eyes, and just as many don't. I personally have no problem with Asians getting eye surgery if it improves their looks, as long as it stays within the "Asian" look. I've seen some really bad ones (IMO) where the eyes look quite Causian (deep creases) that the people look like they're trying to be Caucasian with Asian features.
I think Ziyi Zhang did her eyes, too (my opinion from seeing some of her old pcs), but she did hers to make herself look still very Asian/Chinese, so it fits her face.

Otherwise everyone starts looking like they came from the same cookie cutter, especially if they go to the same plastic surgeon! Well why are boob jobs so popular in America? Can people just accept the looks that they're born with and that aging is a normal thing in life? People have different perception on beauty from different countries... in Asia maybe people are more focus on their eyes but that doesn't mean only Asian are into having plastic surgeries. In America, lipo is probably more popular and needed than in Asia. Well why is that? It's just that people have different needs and it depends on where you live, what the norm is and what the majority of people accept as "beautiful". It's never "what you think about yourself", don't you think? It's always the society that makes you feel you're not pretty enough, not fit enough, etc... DILBAR are you reading this? Show us all the Hollywood celebs you know that have gone under the knife. I know you've got an interesting list - and it's freakin' long!

I have problems w/ plastic surgery in general, be it boob or nose jobs. What kind of message is being sent out to people? Why is self worth contingent on one's physical attributes as opposed to accomplishments and talent? What does it say about society's values? I know I know - it's a topic that's been discussed ad nauseam by the media. It's just that it's getting so out of hand especially when there's reality shows like "The Swan" propagating a ridiculous notion of "beauty". Personally speaking most of the women on the show end up looking like drag queens. The site for stars who've had bad plastic surgery is www.awfulplasticsurgery.com. Most of them look better before they went under the knife.
