Hi all - I saw a terrific move called "The Twilight Samurai" and wanted to recommend it. It stars Hiroyuki Sanada - I recognized him from The Last Samurai. He was the guy that beat the crap out of Tom Cruise. Anyway this movie was beautiful and very touching. I don't want to give anything away, but you can see viewer comments on both Netflix and IMDB. I loved this movie so much that I had to order a copy from Best Buy. Has anyone else seen it?

I havent seen it but I've heard good things about it. I read about this movie back when it wasn't even on dvd yet. This has been on my wish list for quite a long time. I saw it at Best Buy but didn't buy it because I was hoping they would come out with a special edition or something. I'm tired of waiting now so I'm just gonna go buy it. Thanks for reminding me about this movie Windysgirl.

Hi Samanosuke - How have you been? I'd love to get your thoughts after you view this movie. My Best Buy did not have it in stock, but I ordered from Best Buy.com. I'm expecting it today as a matter of fact. What other movies have you seen? I put Wusa the Warrior on my Netflix list - I think you and Tatiana were talking about it earlier this month. I am looking forward to seeing it. I also saw Warm Water Under a Red Bridge, another recommendation of yours, which I enjoyed.

I'll post my thoughts about this movie when I can watch it. I have about 25 or 30 movies I haven't even opened yet. I am really into Samurai culture though so I will probably watch this soon.

Hello, Windysgirl. Yes--I saw Twilight Samurai and loved it!! The passion this man has for his family, the lady he is in love with, his honor and integrity is very endearing! Very touching film--I would recommend it to everyone! Hey--Samanosuke! How are you? I hope you get to see this film soon. Got mine at Blockbuster!

Hi guys! It's almost 3 a.m. where I am and the reason why I'm up is because I just finished watching Twilight Samurai. What a beautiful movie! I like it a lot and eventhough I was really sleepy I couldn't tear myself away from the tv. I'm glad I bought this movie. Thanks again Windysgirl for recommending/reminding me about this movie. Now I'm going to bed *yawn* ZzZzZzZz. Goodnight

Hi Samanoske - glad you were able to get a copy of The Twilight Samurai and that you enjoyed it. I'm off of work today and just finished watching it myself (it did come in yesterday's mail). I actually logged on to let you know that the subtitles were embedded, but the movie is so good I was going to tell you it is still worth adding to your collection.

Yes jadedragon - it is a very touching film - in fact I had to bring out the kleenex at the end. The interview with Hiroyuki Sanada was very good. I believe his personality was a good match for this character. He seems very humble and soft spoken. This film was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. I just love good movies, don't you?

What? The subtitles are embedded? I didn't even notice! Well I still don't have a dvd remote so I can't check to see if it's removable. The film is good so I'll let the embedded subtitles thing slide for now.
P.S. I really like the music for this movie.

Ok I just popped the dvd into my computer and checked the subtitles and they are EMBEDDED!!!!! Curses!!!!! WHY!?!?!?!
Oh well.. I didn't knotice any of that white on white that other dvd's with embedded subs suffer from. I guess I can live with this. The white subtitles actually have a black outlining around them which makes it easier to read. It looks almost like the removable type of subs.

Morning Samanosuke - regarding embedded subtitles, I wanted to quote Kenichi Ryu to Natsumi Sato when they were at the hot springs and she wished it would snow, "We can't have everything." From chapter 8 of Sleepless Town. lol WG

Embedded subtitles!!! curses!!! Here are some reasons why dvd companies use embedded subtitles:
1. They are trying to keep costs down on manufacturing 2. They are not concerned with the quality of the dvd 3. They have low sales expectations for the movie
Booooo!!!!!

Hi Tatiana - I see you're logged on and I'm at work so I only have time for a short one. I saw an excellent movie this weekend called "Comrades: Almost a Love Story". Have you seen it? I think you would really like it. Got to go, WG

Hi Windysgirl Sorry I just missed you. No I haven't seen Comrades:Almost A Love Story, but will add it to my rental line-up. I did rent The Twilight Samurai and hope to get it in the mail today. I did watch two classics this weekend- "The Seven Samurai" and" Yojimbo". both were tremendous!! I didn't know that Yojimbo influenced the later shot movie "A Fistful of Dollars"" with Clint Eastwood. I t made Yojimbo even more interesting. The Seven Samurai has such great actors that the movie is just incredible. Hope you had a great weekend....back to the grind, huh !! Take Care.
