I think the reason Takeshi doesn't want to give up smoking is because he doesn't want to live to be grumpy old man, like all old people get. My Dad is almost 50, and he smoke 10 cigarretts a day since he was 13,and he doesn't want to be in a nursing home sh*tin' in his pants. Maybe that is how Takeshi feels.

Didn't I read somewhere that he started smoking at a young age and then he stopped. I forget what got him started again. If he stopped once, I am sure he can stop again.

As long as I could remember, my parents were smokers for a long time. As a child, I can remember my mom saying, "Don't come here. I don't want you smelling like smoke." Eventually, within the last 10 years, both my parents had stopped smoking completely. My grandmother (my mom's mother) died of lung cancer due to smoking about 10 or so years ago. Since then, my mom has realized that she didn't wanna die with cancer in a hospital, and I know on one does either. I have tried smoking, but I never liked it, so I never really started nor will I ever.

Do people also know that the number of people dying from second-hand smoke is greater than those who die because they're smokers? We need to make it more aware to celebrities, as well as everyone else from parents, small children and teenagers especially the effects of smoking, and how much money they'll be throwing away eachday that they smoke.

My long time boyfriend is a smoker, and I've tried so hard to get him to stop. We now have a 7month old, and I DON"T let him smoke near her nor smoke in the house. I'd like him to stop before our daughter gets old enough to understand what it is and the effects that it leaves, long and short term.

I love everything about TK except for his smoking habit ---- he may still look good with that stick in his mouth (see my avatar) but... let's hope that he'd stop one day :-(

Maybe he has a death wish but is life so bad for him?? Is it just a bad habit or because he is so bored, depressed and for calming nerves? Why not find alternative healthy solutions instead of smoking? Whatever it is he can solve it if he tries. He will regret this in the future when complications arrives.

Its an easy way to relax but it is not worth it if you know what is good for you, TK.

tk_angel... Fully agree with U. He looks so sexy with a cigarette, but that isn't a very healthy habbit. My friends father is dying now on lung cancer-->he is like a "wegetable" since september 2005. He can't eat, move, speak or do anything. I simply don't want him to die too...

i love tk so much, but i really do hate the fact that he smokes....i wish the case were different but that's who he is and i love him and support him for the person he is.

i'm just curious if anyone knows how long he's been a smoker....when you look at his pictures where he's smiling and you can see his gums, they are so dark, that's from all the years of smoking.

Hes been smoking for a long time now about 10 years or more. Hes a very bad smoker, chain smoked, it took his agent a lot of time and effect to stop him smoking in public. You can tell by the colour of his gums and teeth, bad for his skin and health.

it's such an oxymoron where smokers will tell you they need to smoke to relax or calm down when in actuality, it has the opposite effect. When I read his (now defunct) online diary, he has one entry where he talked about being concerned that lately his hands trembled when he tried to keep it still but couldn't. He wondered if it was due to him chain smoking. I hate the fact he smokes like a demon and his brand of choice is Marlboro regulars, THE worst kind as it's more chemicals and carcinogens than tobacco!

yes...rough. that smoking habit is WAY LAME! maybe he's a late comer and is still going through that whole "phase"...just like how he's not ready to date! he's going through a "phhaaaaase"

still it makes me chuckle how many of his movies randomly incorporate smoking for his role... just so that he can enjoy himself lol... aka returner and lavender... i wonder what he was thinking in "turn left, turn right" when his line was "no i don't smoke! its bad for your health!" haha. i bet the director had fun with that one.

lol it's different with takeshi. he's a 32 year old geek who still plays video games! and he's quite the looker... what an interesting combination.

i guess... takeshi won't stop smoking until he finds a reason to. he needs to fall in love. that might do the trick. any takers?

*sigh* Yeah I know the type. Ironically, my ex-BF looked similar to TK AND was a geek who smoked like a chimeny.

I know I'll probably get shot down for saying this but (Tje gets run down and here's kewpie-chan getting shot down by TK fans LOL) it depends on each individual and how bad/how long they are self medicating themselves with these addictive behaviors. Takeshi-san appears to have 2: heavy smoking and drinking.

Falling in love may stop it...but wonders, once the euphoria wears off of "falling in love", he may just go back to the bad habits again.

oi' that may be very true... what I mean is... maybe he just needs a reason to WANT to stay healthy (aka somebody to love) haha! if his love DEMANDS him to quit smoking so that she can love him longer... how could he say no?
