One thing that would be going through my mind would be, you looked so hot dressed up as a samurai!! All right. It wasn't TOTALLY him; just his head, but still. HE'D LOOK SEXY DRESSED UP AS ONE!! I suddenly say that and he'd probably run away. Listening to him whisper sweet nothings..

How does one vote in this poll?! There are like 3 total votes or something! Love sounds, I would vote for love sounds. ;D Need to correct myself AGAIN! Watched Chungking again last night & in the scene where he's calling all the girls to help him get over May, he speaks Cantonese, Japanese & Mandarin (in that order). Just a few snippets of English from TK in CE, the pineapple line, catching the criminal & when he's asking the Paging Operator to spell the name of the person who left him a page, "M-I-N-G or M-A-Y," then asks the Operator in Cantonese, 'don't you know English?' Cheeky. Watched Fallen Angels again too. I give up on this one, don't know if he's speaking Mandarin or Taiwanese or something else. Thought I'd recognize Mandarin but it doesn't sound like Mandarin, even TK Mandarin as spoken in CE or US version of HOFD. Doesn't sound like the Taiwanese the Father is speaking in FA either, don't know what it is! Maybe TK picked up another language?

Now when TK speaks, I can only understand his English. But I'm also used to Cantonese cos most Chinese in my country speak that language. The first time I heard him must be in Cantonese (T/Heart) and I loved his voice then. It must be Cantonese in other movies which I've seen too. I think the first time I heard him spoke Mandarin must be in HOFD. And I thought it sound slightly different.
Then I saw TTTD, the first language he spoke was Japanese and I immediately fell for it. I always love to hear Japanese. Used to watch Jap dramas on tv but none of TKs. The men usually have deep manly voices or at times rather gruff and raspy. The ladies speaks joyfully with a lilting tone that sounds like music to your ear. As you know, TK spoke English for the rest of the movie. I love his English too. Maybe cos I can finally understand him. The cuteness of him speaking English just matches his face.
Next I saw The Golden Bowl. Man, he's really at home. Actually all the while, I always think of him as Japanese. No matter if he's only 1/4 Jap. But everything about him is Jap. His looks, his voice, his mannerism and don't forget his buck teeth.
So, the conclusion is, no doubt I'm used to Cantonese, but I love him speaking Japanese and English more.
Another conclusion is, no matter how cute, how sweet, or at times he appears rather soft but the moment he speaks, hey, HE'S ALL MAN!

I should say, Japanese. I love to hear the way he speaks Japanese, especially when he get mad, or frustrated, for instance, in "God, please give me more time", "Returner". I speak Mandarin, Taiwanese, and English fluently. Though, my parents's generation is fluently in Japanese but I'm not. Still, it is so natural for him.

He's FAST when he speaks Japanese!! ) I'll say this: I love subtitles (my Japanese isn't up to par yet but I'm getting there!! ) I play Onimusha: Warlords in Japanese with English subtitles and they're so quick when they speak. So beautiful!!

I love the way he speaks Japanese, I don't understand it but I think his voice is very sexy. I did not find him to sound as sexy in Chunking Express. I thought he was very cute in Fallen Angels, that scene where he is beginning to fall for his love interest and it's fast forwarding while he rubs his head on her hair while she stares off in the distance. Oh my god he was so beautiful! I am curious to hear him speak more English, but I may not like it if he is not comfortable speaking it. I will definitly check out Too Tired To Die when it comes to the coolest video store in my town. They have alot of foreign films but most of the movies he was in that are from the last 5 years are very slow to arrive, except The Returner, which how I discovered him. In the first few scenes I was like wow that guy is good and they way he moves is amazing! I kinda started to check him out because I thought he looked unsual for a Japanese man and he looked kind of tall. I thought the movie was very sweet and different, I love Sci-fi, so I encouaged my mom to watch it. Once she started it I just had to sit down and watch that first fight scene again, and was struck again even more so by his amazing beauty and grace. I was like wow he is gorgeous and he can really act! I ended up watching the whole movie again and ever since I have been lusting after him. So much so I've been on-line stalking him and renting any movies available. I think he is great and his voice is so hot. Being a tall american girl I haven't been attracted tol asian men, although I did have a light crush on Jet Li a long time ago, but oh boy or should I say oh Takeshi is really something else. Which by the way, Jet Li earlier work in Hong Kong flics was great. In fact I've been very disapponted with what Hollywood has done with him, certainly did not do him justice. That is why I am not anxious to see Takeshi cross over big time. Since he doesn't do mostly kung fu movies like Jet Li and Jackie Chan, it would be different for him. Unfortunately the American masses have a very limited perspective of the Asian culture, and Hollywood follows suit with their type casting of leading roles for Fung Fu bad asses or the backdrop roles, as mentioned earlier, of an Asian shopkeeper. Over the past 20 some years African-Amerians have gotten graudual change of respect and more recently Latino-Americans have too. In the past decade it is accelerating even more, so I think that it's a matter of time before they'll have to start paying respect to Asian-American too. In fact I have been surprised it hasn't started sooner. I was pleased to see Sandra Oh at the Oscars, she looked so stunning. If Hollywood doesn't start getting it straight it's their own loss. I find Hong Kong cinema circuit to be very interesting and they really have their own thing going on which is refreshing for me to be able to see. I don't mind reading subtitles and love listening to the range of dialects. The difference in humor and romance is so cute and funny, nice to have a change from the same old double standard sex sells of the Hollywood machine, boring. In some ways I would like to see Takeshi cross over because I think in a well directed film he could be the one to get people to wake up and take notice. His talent is undeniable. We'll see

Sorry for the typos, it's very late and I guess my eyes are tired. I will look at a few pictures of Takeshi and go to bed to dream of his husky voice in any lanuage he choses to whisper in my ear. I wish!

i really find japanese a very formal and straightforward language... very fast too... it has an "un-emotional" tone to it. IMHO, i never really liked the language.
but my golly... takeshi kaneshiro made me love japan and everything thats in it.... i think japanese is something i have to learn in the near future...
...
i think his english is just adorable... its like listening to a french-speaking person... its so sexy...

In my opinion, he speaks Japanese fluently and I do not find any usual accents normally associated with people from other countries who speak Japanese.
As far as what he is, if he is like many multi-national, he probably has both Japanese and Chinese qualities as well some unique qualities of bein multi.......

It doesn't really matter to me which language he speaks. His voice is awsome. However, I like it best when he speaks Japanese. His coolness is kicked up a few notches. The Japanese language is just so cool. They speak so fast and it's just..... awsome. Yes, and awsome language for an awsome Takeshi!

Espcially in Warlords.
Too bad that you can't pick the Japanese language in Demon Siege.

I first saw him in 'Love 2000' which was a japanese drama where he plays a terrorist. He was SO AMAZINGLY HOT in that. I've also seen him in some chinese films... I think my favourite one's called 'Lavender' but I'm not sure. TK was pretty cool in that bowling drama too I like him whatever language he speaks in but there's definitly a softness to his voice when he's talking in Japanese. I guess it kinda helps that I know English & Japanese Hehe. Being half english half japanese is the best thing in the world!

Hello, Pinkstar! Welcome to this wonderful Takeshi forum! Yes--isn't it so sexy to hear Takeshi speak Japanese? Of course, his deep voice adds more 'oomph' to that fact!! He! He! So--you liked Love 2000? Isn't that an awesome series--despite the ending? That is also one of my favorite Takeshi films. But, Golden Bowl is the very best! Love Takeshi in this particular one due to his many comical expressions and situations! Take care--and happy posting!
