What language do you like listening from Takeshi?

Well since the man speaks all kinds of languages (or does he? Mandarin, Cantonese and Taiwanese are all Chinese)

Which one do you like to listen from him the most and why?

I chose Japanese simply because I understand it and don't have to read subtitles. I can then concentrate on watching Takeshi. Wouldn't you say that's reason enough! Besides, he sounds very gentle when he speaks it.

I like his Japanese...it sounds so soothing. ^^ But I would like it if he could speak Cantonese more b/c I think it's cute when he does and I can understand it. hehe.

I've heard him speak Japanese (Onimusha: Warlords and Returner) and Chinese and sing, too!! A bit of singing but I did hear him nonetheless.

I have Returner on DVD so I watch it in Japanese with English subtitles. When I play Warlords, I have English subtitles on and the Japanese vocal track on.

Hi, Veronica. Welcome to the site! Regarding hearing Takeshi speak Japanese in a movie- I recommend 'The Sleepless Town'--it has Japanese audio with English (could have been better) subtitles. I think it's one of his best movies--I like it a lot. You can see a very different Takeshi screen persona than the more popular light romance/comedy genre that he does mostly. It's a sort of asian film noir--kinda dark and deals with all sorts of 'underworld' characters such as various factions of the Chinese mafia wheeling and dealing to control of a certain section of a Japanese city. Highly recommended by yours truly. A warning though--it has some sex scenes , but tastefully done. Take care!

Now an even BIGGER reason to get "Sleepless Town"!!

I saw "House of Flying Daggers" in French, so I heard his French voice dub sing.

He WAS drunk so it's obvious that he wasn't up to par with his singing.

Well I'm sorry to tell y'all a bad news... did you know that it wasn't Takeshi's own voice in HOFD? ? ? Seriously, you couldn't tell if it really was his voice? Also, it wasn't Andy Lau's own voice either in the movie. Both of them had been dubbed but yes it was really Zhang Ziyi's talking with her own voice.

Obviously, some of you haven't been taking advantage of my website. If you'd like to hear Takeshi's singing (note that he was once a pop singer...), you can download his songs in the "media" section. I'm not saying this is exlcusive but it's really quite rare... I don't think you can find his songs available on his other sites. So yeah, take advantage of that. I put 'em on there for you guys.

I wouldn't know. As I've said, I saw it in French. Mind you, it was a bit odd hearing his French dub voice actor. He didn't go with Takeshi's face.

At least with Onimusha: Warlords, Tig had that deepness to his voice.

I think I'd read it somewhere before that Takeshi was taking French or Italian lessons...? I can't remember

Oohhh!! I get what you mean. I'm sure that fans of his who have heard him speak Mandarin before will know right away that it isn't him speaking.

Funny story: I went to go see "Hero" and the lady told me that it's in Mandarin with English subtitles. Not once, but FOUR TIMES!! I was like, I KNOW, lady!! If I didn't want to see "Hero", I wouldn't have bought my ticket. I'm a fast reader so it doesn't take me long to read the subtitles. I was close to missing the trailers for other upcoming movies.

I don't know any Mandarin but that didn't stop me from seeing "Hero". And Jet li's left butt cheek. Worry not. I didn't know that his left butt cheek was going to be shown. It was a great movie over-all. I have it on DVD.

I dunno but I wasn't too impressed.

To me, "Hero" is the type of movie that if you get up to do something, you'll miss something and not understand something that relates to the part you missed later on in the film.

Jet Li is awesome (he was cool in Lethal Weapon 4). I do love Jackie Chan!!
