Synopsis: Miyamoto is a killer-for-hire who stumbles across a young woman named Miri. She asks him to help accomplish her mission, a mission that could save the world from total destruction. The girl was send back from the future in order to change the past. I know it sounds very familiar, I'll get back on this later. Miyamoto agrees to fight evil when he finds out that his longtime nemesis Mizoguchi, a vicious gang leader, is related to the coming events that will exterminate the existence of human kind. The story is a mish mash of other end of the world and gansters-in-black-suits-with-sunglasses movies. Take a bit of Independence Day and Terminator. A grain of Mission Impossible 2, a chunk of The Matrix and top it off with some Blade coolness (I even noticed a sample of the soundtrack of End of Days). What do you get? A great fun movie! Really, the filmmakers gave the story some nice original twists to keep you awake otherwise the action will take care of that. See it as combination of all your favorite movies in one flick. Takeshi Kaneshiro as (Miyamoto) is a Japanese version of Keanu Reeve's Neo, leather coat, sunglasses and perfect presence. The chemistry between Takeshi and Ann Suzuki (Miri) works on screen and gives the film a lighter tone. Goro Kinutsani provides a top-notch performance as the evil Mizoguchi. This character is just so evil, slick and ruthless, something you've never seen before. The Returner is one of Director Takashi Yamazaki first movies and he does a great job. He gives the movie a nice western, sometimes Hollywood feel to it. Taken from moviexplosion.com

So what if the plot sucks? It's got nonsense action, coolness factor and a stylish hero. That's all I need.

Hi! Regarding the movie--Returner--I think it's entertaining to say the least. I mean--we shouldn't compare it to US made films because I feel that Asian cinema has a niche of its own in the world movie industry. I viewed it as an honest effort by the filmmakers to come out with an Asian sci-fi film that is strictly fantasy. fast paced, and a great career boosting vehicle for my current heartthrob--Takeshi!

I just got done watching it last night, with the subtitle on (not the dubbed version).
From some of the comments I've read of this movie, I was expecting a really boring, horribly-made movie. Sure, the plot wasn't the greatest, but I thought Takeshi and Milly had a certain chemistry that worked well, and the movie was interesting enough -- certainly wouldn't call it crap.

I've read so many mixed reviews about this movie from fans and critics. It's either you like it or not.
I'd watch this one just for the fun and fantasy stuff and also to see Takeshi looking kakko ii!
Besides, Takeshi really enjoyed working on this. I'd give it a look based on this alone.

I have it!! It's rare to find Japanese movies in my parts, and that's including anime. I think it's a really cute movie with tons of action. You're not sitting there bored and Takeshi is just so freakin' ADORABLE, espcially around Anne. I cried at three parts of the movie, though. I'm no gun nut but he looks hott with a gun!!

I play Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty often but not too often and I just realised that at the end of "Returner", he and Anne are on a plant shell like in the second part of Sons of Liberty.

Source: The Star Online Article: Suzuki, starting young Author: Michael Cheang URL: www.star-ecentral.com/news/story.asp?file=/2005/5/6/movies/10682883&sec=moviesSuzuki's comments on working w/ TK: Having worked alongside some of the most desirable actors in the region, namely Chou and Takeshi, who does she think is better looking? <br> She broke into giggles and said tactfully: “They are both very good-looking, and it is very difficult to choose between them.” Note: If you found the above info on this website and want to post on another fan forum, in addition to citing the original source, can you please cite takeshi-kaneshiro.com as the secondary source? I like his hair in this movie. Doesn't it look cool? The villian was cool too because to me he seemed like an anime but in real life.

This is the second TK movie I saw and was pleasantly surprised- It was silly in some parts, like the ET look-a-like, but that 's what made it fun. And I enjoy the extra features- the making of the movie, the directors take on the film and the actors commentary-this ( to me ) is what makes the movie more interesting. you get more insight about the movie... That is why I love DVDs ... the special features!

Wow Windysgirl-8 huh?? I'm kinda at a lull with TK movies-I don't have anything new coming in (rental or bought),but would love to get my hands on Turn Left, Turn Right or Sleepless Town or Anna Magdalena..... I think I've watched 10 TK movies, but hunger for more...
Hmmmm ....Golden Ball, or God, Please Give Me More Time would also be nice......
